Based on the pics I'd say that's definitely a Fairchild 523 like mine - 2nd generation circa 1952 as it has the 3 speeds on it (the original 1948 version had 2 speeds). I have a copy of the original owners manual - I could scan and post it for whoever wins that auction if this is not included alread...

Flo -
I sent you a pm as well and am interested in getting one from the first batch.

Is the pre-amp pcb included in the price or does this need to be purchased separately?

Why does it suck? From my understanding - it's a non-feedback head with some not very well tamed resonant peaks and a limited frequency range along with an underpowered amp, the turntable motor does not have enough torque to not give you a bit of wow and flutter, and there's a bit of rumble with th...

unique Ortofon lathe circa 50's/60's on ebay

I'm not the seller but wanted to put this up here as I've never actually even seen a picture of a lathe similar to this -

Preview decks were made by Telefunken, Studer, and Sony/MCI (such as my JH110M - photo below), and I've seen some mod Ampex ATR decks as well. Who has one? Even Ampex couldn't figure out how to put a preview head on an ATR and developed a digital delay line for the program signal for cutting. CBS d...

wow - that went for a hefty price at just under $4000. I could understand if there was say a Grampian on it - but those moving iron heads have a pretty limited frequency response.

what is the general price for this kind of lathe? I am on tight budget but would like yo get something like presto 6n or similar in europe. It's extremely rare that a Fairchild 740 ever comes to market so price is more of what people are willing to pay at the moment than anything that can have a de...

100% analog can be done in a couple different ways - either with fixed or manual pitch so that only a single signal path from the analog source is needed - or via a preview tape deck with an initial "preview" playback head going to the pitch/depth computer, followed by extra capstans allowing the ta...

There's also George Ingram in Nashville (he does URP's in house stuff) and Hitbound in Brooklyn - both without websites afaik.

I'll let someone else chime in with European/Asian/South American places.

i though this was getting restored and put into service.. No - that's a completely different lathe (an SV12 - not an SV8 that is in this auction) getting restored by Electrical Mastering in the UK. afaik Foon Mastering in Belgium has been the only professionally used working Lyrec system - and this...

i'm not a pro but without a million spare parts it's probably more a pain than fun. does it come with the motors? It says included are what's in the photos. so: No motor! (or pitch computer, lathe controls, cutter head mount, vacuum system, cutterhead, amps, belts, etc.) So unless you're looking fo...

Lier Belgium is the site of Foon Mastering so I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that is who the seller is. Listing includes SX-74, Ortofon amps, transfer console and acceleration limiter, along with the Sean Davies custom pitch/depth computer (which I believe some hold in higher esteem than the Zum...

Quick and easy test is just to get a multimeter and check the resistance
(Ohms) from one input lead to the other input lead. I think these are supposed to be wired for 16ohms (but I could be wrong).

Cool.. I would actually use this on my 8C, which has plenty of vertical clearance. Just couldn't figure out how to input the music, looking at the pics, but if he is selling a preamp that controls the feedback, I'd definitely pick that up as well. From my understanding based on what Flo said previo...

Grampian D went for a fairly hefty $730 - the second in a row on ebay to go in the low $700 range - a little more than I wanted to pay for a second cutter head. Seems there's a decent demand for them right now - or that a slightly higher price range has been established for them, Best regards, Steve...

Except based on the quote I got in October 2010 from Vinylium for SC-99 + VC-200 together for 6500 chf your math is completely wrong. 9100 chf - 6500 chf = 2600 chf = 2015 euro for overhead system. Meaning Andy's price of 500 euro is not only reasonable but could even be considered a bargain. Best ...
