What is a locked groove record? Nevermind, figured it out--just did't think people actually did it.

You should look at this page. It talks about some alternatives to laquers.

I don't have a diamond cutter but I don't think you can cut glass. Not so much the actually cutting of the glass but the allowance for movement of the needle. Plus I think it would chip. Although you could probably cut urethane or resin; even if you don't have a diamond stylus.

I had been on the drdub page but I did not see this part. Thank you. I would probably set up something similar to the first pic from the history page. Theoretically I could put any motor in there as long as I use pulleys to get it to the right speed. Electronically would be difficult unless I actual...

Amazing! I used a real cutter on regular cds and I didn't get any sound. You should look at this page-https://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?t=951&mforum=lathetrolls

Lewis D-- How was the original motor installed? Do you have pics of the original installation and or the modifications? I don't know how any of it went together becuase they ripped out everything--even the wires and switches. Also do you now of a type of motor I could get in America that would work?

Now when it comes to the upper coil you don't need to loosen the spring screws (the manual said it was a bad idea). The entire spring assembly can be taken off of the main plate and then the top coil slips right out. That way you don't need to mess with the springs. Maybe your head is different. Her...

Mark-- This is exactly want I want to do! I originally assumed that the coils were in parallel but they were torn from the terminal posts so I really didn't know. I also found the same thing out when I unwound the bottom coil---I broke the bobbin into three pieces (although I super glued it together...

I am thinking of trying spray laquer on a metal disc. Still fairly simple compared to blacknwhites proposal, but possibly better than paint. I think that a lot of the scrating is from the pigment in the paint.

Simon- 4 ohms of resistance means 8 ohms of impedence in this case? That means I need to try for 8 ohms of resistance per coil. Also some thing else occured to me--- because there are two coils in parallel, do they need to be out of phase from each other. The top would be pushing while the bottom is...

Actually that would cause I want mine to be 8 ohm. Can you measure the resistance? I figure 8 ohm would be easier to use because you could use it on any audio amp.

Prestofan: So then the head on the Rekokut is probably original then. Interesting; it seemed kind of fishy at first but I guess it is factory.

Ok--because I went on wikipedia and found the math a little confusing---I did an experiment. I tested the resistance of an 8 ohm speaker (what I want the head to be and similar in construction to a cutter head) and it came up as 8 ohms. Maybe it is a coincident or something or maybe they actually ar...

I did have a question about the 1-D head. Mine is blow. When I took it apart I could see that the wires going the coils seemed charred and were disconnected. Now I tested the resistance of the two coils and the top one was 1000 ohms and the other 40 ohms. They should both be 1000 right ---to make up...

Wow cool site. I haven't gotten a chace to read through it but I will definitely do so. Also, my Rek-o-kut has a Presto head on it; did Rek-okut ever make their own heads or did they use other peoples heads, like Presto?
