Re: MDC lacquers
I agree with Mossy here. A bad batch to me has always been defined as imperfections with the disc & coating, not necessarily the lacquer compound itself. If the chip doesn't pick up, you make some adjustments to the suction strength or the tube etc… Discs that are bent, have bubbles, aluminum specks...

Re: General mastering tips for vinyl
Tip 1!
If you end up making a "vinyl version" that is different from the digital master that the artist approved, be sure to get the artists/clients approval on it before sending it in to be cut.

Re: Neumann AM32 Chassis Colour
Here's my experience with painting. I removed the front panel, gave it a light sanding in about a 7 inch area to expose the original paint color. Then took the panel to the local home improvement store and had them computer color match that 7 inch area. I sanded and used auto body filler in the ding...

Re: Frequency Response: Lacquer v Pressing
You're so right, it's a valid observation in frequency reponse between the three graphs. I guess there are a few angles to the question. The Graph relates specifically to diameter loss and highlights a difference from Lacquer to mother to pressing. It's pretty interesting how the response in the gra...

Re: Frequency Response: Lacquer v Pressing
Thanks for the post The above diagram shows diameter loss, not loss from lacquer to pressed vinyl. Maybe some others can chime in, but I believe exposure to high temperature has a significant effect on high frequency loss. (as well as groove echo) i.e. after a lacquer master is cut & shipped, it oft...

Re: How is possible to record sounds?
It's really is pretty amazing
The science is all there, it just takes continued study to have it sink in.
I would imaging the sand would be all scrambled with actual music.
In the same way a single sine wav differs from a complex wave form on an oscilloscope.
I love it!
