I am rebuilding my lathe and don't remember how to connect the wires back to the cutting head. Can anybody please give me a hint?

Re: Question .. riding cutter head?
I am currently cutting with a Rek-O-Kut in Mono. I recently purchased an old "National" lathe which I am current restoring, because I wanted to have a lathe with a fixed head traction mechanism that allows me to control the cutter head movement independently from the platter speed. Every part is now...

Question .. riding cutter head?
I understand that most MONO lathes have the cutter head (the stylus) riding the lacquer (feel free to jump in if I talk nonsense). It follows the contour of the lacquers and is able (within limits) to deal with small changes in material or warps. The depth of the groove will be adjusted by modifying...

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
Thank you all. It think I understand it better now. I was confused because 90% of my work is with vintage mono and stereo recordings and I so far I didn't notice any "red" on the correlation meter, not even with older 50s and 60s classical recordings. So I was somewhat surprised seeing that much "ou...

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
@Greg - can you please elaborate a bit? I'd like to understand that on a more detailed level. I assume it may have something to do with the positioning and spacing of the microphones (classical concert recording) ? Or is the "effect" created in the mastering stage?

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
Thank you all for the input. I spoke to another audio-engineer friend and he said that a red (negative) value in an otherwise good cut or transfer first and foremost indicates what would happen if you were to sum up the channels to mono. Everything from 0 to +1 can be combined into a good mono signa...

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
@gold - As far as I understand that - doesn't it indicate that sound waves are canceling each other out? In other words - one would hear *less* ?

Re: Phasing problem (Mastering)
So - you would suggest that it was badly cut? Not a reproduction issue?

Re: ebay scams be careful!
Emm .. question - if you are in the U.S. - why not file a criminal complaint against the guy? I mean come on - Ebay is not a replacement for the "normal" way of how things are resolved.

Phasing problem (Mastering)
Hello - I was asked to listen to a few transferred stereo vinyl recordings. I fed it through my tool chain and noticed that my "Jellyfish" (Goniometer) showed large parts of the recording to be in the "red" - indicating canceling (stereo) phasing. I know that the guy didn't do anything fancy during ...

Re: Glenn Miller Vinyl Production
Thank you for the compliments. Looking back at all the work, I loved every minute of it. Of course I am not talking about all sh*t that happened, all the time we wasted pursuing something that wasn't possible. We all have to carve out our niches and my little studio focuses on a fairly small market ...

Glenn Miller Vinyl Production
At the request (or as per suggestion) by Aussie0zborn, here is a report about my (http://www.rollofone.com) Glenn Miller production. First I have to say that I am a big fan of American Music from the mid-thirties to the late 40s. Especially big band, dance jazz, but also related international music....

Partner For Overflow Work
Dear fellow trolls - I am looking for a cutter to take over some overflow work, mostly cut-on-demand (cut customer provide audio) - no labels, plain record. I require fast turnover, payment via PayPal. Send me a message with prices for a 12" vinyl Stereo cut. Thanks. Michaela http://www.rollofone.com

Re: Test cut vs. mass produced
Thanks for the answer. The pressing plant already confirmed the problem. Seems they had an improper stamper set up with uneven adhesive on the outer edges on 3 of our 5 records which are causing the rumble.

Test cut vs. mass produced
Howdy folks - it seems I have a major problem and need some insight. We are producing a record set and everything went more or less smooth. We got the test pressings and they sounded ok so we gave the thumbs up for the production run. Today I received the production records and they sound very diffe...

Re: Starting a press - Prelim
Well ... before you start .. make sure you understand the process. It's not only the lacquer cutting, there's the plating, the label printing and cutting, dealing with customers, packaging and so on. AFAIK the pressing is currently not really the bottle neck, it's the plating. But what do I know ;) m.
