Large Prototype Dynamic cutting head for sale (DIY / VR replacement ?) - Located NZ
Selling this dynamic head that was a version 2 prototype. Tried to replicate a VR head (tyre-like surrounds etc...) and with the available parts here, this ending up making her a little chunky  Worked great when tested on a VR, obviously with some additional set up to suit the size. Needed ...

Re: Finally cutting!!! home built machine and heads
Cheers  The track is by Deadly Sub (Boris) who runs the DubColony label out of Switzerland He's just put up a few vinyl releases, semi transparent coloured, looking awesome! I've got a release coming up with them later in the year  I've posted pics on here during the build and some pe...

NG V3 (112).jpg Here are the heads Anyone looking at building their own head or repairing a VR.. I've been asked a couple times and this is the best I found for surrounding the cones. Very elastic stuff! Probably the secret as to why these work so well  https://www.mapei.com/nz/en/products-an...

Finally cutting!!! home built machine and heads
It's been a long journey getting this machine built. 3 years working on the heads, and another couple finishing off the rest... Couldn't have done it without the help of a few quality threads here on LT Here are a couple examples of some recent cuts - dub and dubstep is big here in NZ, cutting some ...

MYSHANK 340 S vs 340 Synthetic Diamonds ?
Hi all I'm just getting into running my home built machine. So far so good using a 2nd hand MyShank 340 S diamond. Before I order more, can anyone please tell me if the 340 Synthetic is worth jumping up to for the extra 45EUR ? do they actually last 50% longer, and is the angle different meaning I'd...

Re: Cutting Diamonds for learning ?
Hi Mark Thanks for those suggestions :D I've fortunately been able to already test the heads on a local VR, so I know they perform very well  now I'm up to the stage of testing my whole machine and wanting to know if the head lever and counterweight systems work right, if there's any motor ...

Cutting Diamonds for learning ?
Hi all Been a long road getting my heads and machine to a stage it's ready to test... and am (like I imagine most people are) terrified of destroying good/expensive cutting diamonds  Has anyone come up with a good alternative to use while doing initial tests to avoid expensive mistakes ? or i...

Custom Made Torque Tubes - Available For Purchase
Hello experimenters, For the past few years I have been building dynamic stereo cutting heads, and all three designs have been very successful. One of the most important parts being the torque tubes and diamond mount.. which I build from brass and silver solder. I would like to offer these custom ma...

Re: Lathe Build - Disengaging Motor From Lead Screw - HELP !
I tried a spragg bearing on each motor, but as they're facing each other, the opposing motor still gets back-driven unfortunately That sounds like a good idea also. I'm not very good with gearing and ratios though hahah.. Bit of an experiment, but will try these clutches. means all clutch and motor ...

Re: Lathe Build - Disengaging Motor From Lead Screw - HELP !
Agh, turns out most electromagnetic clutches don't actually mount the second shaft to the outside of the body.. only some.. which would require the slip ring etc !! Found some tiny electro clutches with a 6mm internal, and a large gear or plate on the other end. with some small adapter shafts this w...

Re: Vacuum Pump Research
I've seen recommendations to use a variable AC transformer (variac) on whatever vacuum or pump. Yet to try this myself but sounds like it'll work great. If what you have is too noisy or sucks too strong, this decreases the voltage to make it run at a variable lower speed. Got one for $50nzd on Bangg...

Re: Lathe Build - Disengaging Motor From Lead Screw - HELP !
Unfortunately I don't have a half nut setup. It's an igus positioning table. And the main motor I'm using is the same as VR, so far too slow to use to drive it back to the start I thought originally about the VR style hollow lead screw setup.. souri's a genius there.. but far too tricky to machine a...

Lathe Build - Disengaging Motor From Lead Screw - HELP !
Not far from a functioning lathe, but ran into some issues with the drive motors if anyone has some alternative ideas please ? Bit of a head scratcher... Turns out I'm not great with physics  I am running one motor to get nice smooth running and precision, but it's speed range is very ...

Hey all
For anyone who'd like to share...
What sort of amplifiers are being used for stereo cutting... any preferences of amp class ??

Re: VR: Heat Affecting Dashpot?
Iv'e seen a lot of talk about those airpots, but haven't heard they work well. due to using air, there is a tiny delay in the pressure building up before it actually functions. So presumably... (as I haven't used one) I'm guessing you'd either have a dead spot of not enough damping, or you'd have to...

Re: VR: Heat Affecting Dashpot?
A bit late to the party here.... but I'm currently building an oil/spring dashpot, and working on a suspension design. But am interested to know.. when pulling the head lever down, does the lever just add a small amount of weight causing the head to drop ? or is there some sort of mechanism going on...
