Hey y'all!
So I'm looking at some mics and was wondering if y'all had any input for what might be best. The type of recording I do is all live off the floor done with one mic. The two mics I've been eying up are the RCA 77d and the RCA 74. Ill be running it through two preamps then into the cutter.

Re: Lathe Disaster
It's all pretty much destroyed. The head was destroyed, amp destroyed and the cutting arm is actually bent out of place. Also my turntable and a master was destroyed. There are very few things salvageable from the mess. I have found a cutter I might be buying that needs a shit ton of work but doesn'...

Lathe Disaster
After spending a ton of money and a ton of time restoring a lathe I had that all ruined due to an unfortunate roommate situation. They thought I did something and decided to take it out on my completely customized Presto. That being said I'm slowly in the market for new gear if anybody has any leads...

Has anybody ever used one of these‽ The price has me thinking that it's a scam or something.

K8 rebuild. Motor trouble.
Hey y'all! So me and a friend started a rebuild of a K8 and now we're stuck on the motor. What we are doing is taking everything and making it its own separate unit.We removed the amp, motor and cutter and put them into their own external cases so we could get rid of the rim drive turntable to elimi...

Re: Making money / Supporting yourself cutting records?
I have a small studio and I charge people the absolute bare minimum so I can just keep cutting. All I try to have the sessions pay for are the cost blanks and to keep me working the machines as much as possible.

Smart! Thanks!markrob wrote:Hi,
Just disconnect the wires to the head and cut a silent groove. Compare that to a silent groove cut with the wires connected and you'll be able to tell.

It is the cutter that Bill Russell used for all of his recordings.
