Re: Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping
right on. here in FL it's a big deal when it drops below 40% humidity my chip drops right away. sometimes I even spray really lightly onto the disc with dropped chip, and it picks back up. on more troublesome days I'll spray anti-static and let it sit on the disc for a while before cutting That's i...

Re: Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping
Hi ObiKutnobi, Perhaps I am not; it IS doing it at that initial point. Thank you, that is something good to know about. I will try this out. I have before thought of modifying so it has a smooth lowering.

Re: Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping
Hi tragwag. Yes I have used staticide in the past and now turtle wax which makes lots of difference . But yes it still could be static. I was looking online at a static meter type thing and they were £100 which I thought was alot just to prove/disprove something once. I think increasing the humidity...

Re: Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping

Re: Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping
Thanks I have been looking at Side Channel Blowers (after reading your post). It be good to be able to get the disc hotter and have no swarf drop. By the noise mine makes and the leaking oil, Its going to completely go soon.

Re: Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping
Hi Sue Thanks for getting back. Good question. I am using an old pump that was used for cleaning out car air conditioning. Made by General Electric, but the label has since fallen off. Its quite big and does seem powerful, but perhaps it is old..It makes alot of noise. i am searching for it on the i...

Too Hot! getting the disc temperature right/swarf dropping
Hello, To get my vinyl blank a good temperature for diamond cutting I use stylus heating (a little) and heat the disc up with a hot lamp. To get a cut where it has good "high end" frequencies , a bright and not dull sound, it helps to get the disc up to about 35 degrees (95 Fahrenheit) or more . But...

Re: Ionizer / Ionizing air blower for cutting plastic
Yes to go on a bit more. I got the impression that most air purifiers give out negative ions. The main purpose is for health reasons. But if you wanted to eliminate negative charge you would need positive ions. Am I right? I noticed that the Electro static fans, that are designed to eliminate static...

Re: Ionizer / Ionizing air blower for cutting plastic
Hello!
Are we trying to eliminate positive or negative charge. Or could it be either. I noticed that with the Aerostat you can choose either positive or negative output
Regards
Nik

Re: without stylus heat
Hi PMST Thanks that's great to know its good to match up noise issues to problems. i have already adjusted the angle to the record slightly a it wasn't 90 degrees, ans am looking to see if it rotated a bit next. I have changed my lathe from an idler wheel, which had a rumbling noise that transferred...

Re: without stylus heat
Hi Aaron, Thanks that's great to know. I will play with various amounts heat to see the difference. And so the squeaking is probably something else. its quite quiet, but annoying on the silent grooves (eg,run in groove).
Best

without stylus heat
Hello. When I first got my diamond stylus, it cut very good without stylus heat. Stephen from myshank said this would be the case. Now after many cuts there's is a slight squeaking noise on the record. I have got stylus heating set up, but suspicious its not hot enough. Is this the kind of noise you...

Re: The Challenges of the AR Sugden "Connoisseur Lathe"
Hi there. I look into this too as a bit fed up with idler wheel noise on my MSS. I have tried tensioning springs and trying to get the wheel smoother but you can hear the rumble on the vinyl. I have a spoke at 4000 hz on my recordings too which I was wondering was from the idler too although it see...

Re: The Challenges of the AR Sugden "Connoisseur Lathe"
PS The spike at 4000 hz is probably something else but disregarding that I can hear a low rumble on a silent groove

Thanks I found a good explanation in the end. I was finding alot of stuff talking about it but not explaining. Mono and feedback question!
Hi there everyone. This might be a naive question. I have been reading a lot about cutterhead feedback. But still can't figure something out. I was wondering if feedback was just needed for stereo cutterheads? (I have an MSS mono moving iron cutterhead and lathe). It is just to stop interference bet...
