Re: Harara [Hara] portable lathe

My Hara M-180 is supposed to run at 45rpm but it actually runs at about 57rpm with the 100V transformer. I use Audacity and I speed the song up to about 25.8% before I cut. Sounds beautiful when playing on a 45rpm turntable when the amp in the lathe wants to work right.

Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback

I'm not sure I understand.... So are you getting clicks and pops while cutting, but they do not exist when you play the record back on a turntable? Also, I'm not sure what you mean by dropping the stylus a little early. Earlier than what? Do you mean dropping it to a lower depth when its in the head?

Re: Simple Question on STATIC!

Hi,

I am cutting PVC 7 inch blanks with a Japanese Hara M-180 with a diamond from MyShank at 45RPM. The blanks are from MyShank too.

Thanks

Simple Question on STATIC!

Hi All, I have been researching all through this website and cannot find specific information on all the issues static can cause. Is the biggest problem with static the fact that it can cause noise or swarf wont be lifted easily? Or can it cause all sorts of problems? Can it directly cause the sound...

New Amp on an Semi Old Lathe

Hi All, I have posted about my issues on other threads and I think I want to try to hook up another amp to my cutter head to see if the problem I am having is in the amp. However, I do not know much about impedance matching. I assume I will have to get an amp with the same impedance as what my cutte...

Re: Sound isnt as good as usual

Still no progress... I took the head apart to inspect it and it seems like its ok. I can hear clear sound out of it and it doesn't seem to be sounding like I described, although I'm thinking its hard to tell since its like putting an earbud up to your ear, but not inserting it. I wish this lathe had...

Sound isnt as good as usual

Hi All, I have had a lot of luck with using a Japanese Hara M-180 to cut 45RPM PVC with a diamond I got from MyShank. However, I am having an issue with the music sounding like I recorded it right out of a speaker. Its almost hallow sounding and it sounds like I am listening to the music through a p...

Re: Volume Seems to Decrease and then Recover

I found out why... It was because the recordings I got were recorded with outrageous gain. Had to lower the gain more than usual and the volume as well. Had to also split stereo into two monos and play them both out of one channel. I love this little Hara M-180 lathe. It records very nicely if the d...

Volume Seems to Decrease and then Recover

Hi All, Right now I am using a Japanese Hara M-180 to cut 45RPM PVC with a diamond I got from MyShank. I have been having some really great success, but on some songs the volume dips a bit and then recovers. I can hear it in the head while testing before cutting. When I am finished cutting, I can al...

Re: Is My Needle Dull? Pics Included

So if you're happy with that... You should continue to train with cheap stuff before reaching the next step If I train with the cheap stuff, I feel I'm not learning anything. I have bought cheap stuff in the past and cannot get rid of background (grinding, squeaking) noise. In order to learn, I hav...

Re: Can Anybody Tell Me Whats Going On Here? (Pics Included)

Try one by one 3 steps: 1. Try another blanks (Myshank or better [if you have the opportunity] Sourie's vinylrecorder-stuff) 2. Setup in a better way the cutterhead's counterweight, (smooth move). 3. Setup the turntable's flatness. Other trolls explained allready. I think I am going to try other bl...

Is My Needle Dull? Pics Included

Hi All Once Again, I am using a K10 Presto and I am cutting 45s. My sapphire needle is starting to make a lot of noise. While cutting virgin PVC (not embossing), every now and then I get a high pitched screech. Sometimes it lasts for a good 20 seconds or so. I tried to adjust the force of the cuttin...

Re: Can Anybody Tell Me Whats Going On Here? (Pics Included)

Maybe it has some relation to this topic I posted years ago: Do you mean turntable wobble? Mine wobbles if I press on one side of the platter without it turning. But only a very very slight bit, like 100um or something. I'll look into that more. Your k10 has a rubber belt around the platter, not an...

Re: Can Anybody Tell Me Whats Going On Here? (Pics Included)

Hello, I have the same result sometimes. The problem is coming only from the blank disc. So do you think its just the way the blank discs are made? Basically once the record is cut, you can see the inside? What does it sound like when the play back needle plays those spots? If it starts to skip the...

Can Anybody Tell Me Whats Going On Here? (Pics Included)

Hi All, I have been cutting (not embossing) for a few weeks with a Sapphire cutting stylus on my Presto K10. I am cutting 45RPM singles. The type of records I am cutting are these---> https://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Large-Hole-Blank-Vinyl-Records-QTY-of-10/253054296263?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trks...
