Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hi! I did my last cut yesterday (Metal track) and I'm very happy with this result. I use a carbon fiber to hold the needle (I am experimenting glue the needle to the torque, it is not the best way...but..) and I start using only diamond tip between 95-100 degree angle. The speaker cones are made by ...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hello! I did some changes in the needle and torque. I got some tips from Nedelcu, I take off the screw in the torque to make the head more lighter. Actually, it worked. I can control better the weight when I touch the needle on the disc. I changed my needle (influenced by EposLab) with a alumminium ...

Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Hi Tasos, Congratulations! That's a remarkable work progress. About the position of your needle with 100º angle, how do you avoid the hiss sound and not to turn into a cut record when the needle touches the disc? I suposed you use My Shank PVC, I tried my self and they are very sensible without any ...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hey Trolls! My last cut of today, a little bit better but my needle is dying and I got some noise of course. Emboss 3 - 28 NOV.mp3 I am using a tungsten needle on My Shank disc, the angle is 60º of the needle...and is with 'cone' format, I will try with triangle to know what I get.I heated the disc ...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hello Trolls! Some progression here. I made a new cutterhead and I did some experiment with the embossing technique (or tried it). Some pictures of the new cutterhead: 20231125_202538.jpg 20231125_202441.jpg 20231126_195548.jpg 20231125_202531.jpg 20231125_202448.jpg I was impressed for the result, ...

Hey Tom,
Congratulations! That's sound great. What exciters do you use in your cutterhead?
Best regards
Joel

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hey! I'm back for the project. I am starting to build a new cutterhead...more detailed and accurate than the first one. About the exciters, what do you think about this one? Or I should stay with the tweeters? https://www.soundimports.eu/en/dayton-audio-daex30hesf-4.html?id=76847138&gad=1&gclid=CjwK...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
My first attempt were tweeters with crossover, Peiying PY-T59. I saw in this forum some people and on youtube too suggesting these pair. 51jFCNX6PTL._AC_SX679_.jpg https://www.amazon.co.uk/PY-T59-Peiying-Speakers-tweeter-neodymium/dp/B00XJIL7PM Do you think they are enough to continue testing? Re: DIY lathe , new to this , what am i doing wrong ? :)
Hello Constantin! Congratulations for your project, it's really well designed. I am working on my first handmade lathe project too and I have been embossing only with CD's and I had problems with the output volume and surface noises. Do you have any advice? Your cutting sound for me is up than I wis...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hello Thomas! I 'rebuilt' the cutterhead with the steps you mention before, I embossed some CD's and the 1khz sine wave for testing the output, but the sound recorded has not changed at all. I think I need to create a new improved cutterhead... Have you any advice of tweeters and other precise mater...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hello Thomas! I think I know what you mean, and yes, this construction has no spring and probably make some changes when is recording. When I built it, I tried to figuring out in my mind how to control the level manually and experiment different weights. Then when the needle is on the disc with the ...

Re: Newbie project result = low volume and distortion
Hello Thomas! That sketch you made is very clear about that mecanism you have been explaining. Meanwhile, I found a very lucid video of what you mean, I supose you saw already.
