Welcome back!
You forgot to mention you make your own inner sleeves and jackets. That a big advantage and another milestone for any plant.

Re: Technical specialist required for alpha toolex ad12
… what do you mean by roughing the label area? we don't do this at the plant I work at, and i think it may be a missing step in our process.. This is certainly a missing step of your process. The label area is roughened with fine sandpaper. This is normally done on the lacquer under running water u...

Re: weird honeycomb pattern after plating
Looks like “chicken feet” or “worms”. These usually show up in the lead-out groove area. It’s caused by organic impurities in the galvanic plating solution. A good carbon treatment will resolve that.

Does this same pattern show up on the stamper?

Re: 7" Press Tonnage
You're on the right track, Toolex AD12 12"press is 108 tonnes. Toolex also made a smaller press, the AD7 for 7" records, as did Lened.I don't know the tonnage of these dedicated 7" presses but they are certainly less. I would think there is no point in making a dedicated 7" press these days - probab...

Re: Pressing Equipment for sale
Any additional information on what happened, as I was planning on buying it, the deposit was supposed to go next week... You're a very lucky man. The pressing equipment from HD VINYL as seen in the above photos and in another post was sold one month ago. It is currently installed in a pressing plan...

Re: New JAES paper on tracing distortions
That's a longstanding practise as it is in record collecting circles. One doesn't expect to see it in a professional paper where nomenclature is important.leemichael wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 5:35 pmYes here in the UK the underground dance music scene commonly called 12” laquers “acetates” as an alternative to Dub Plates!

Re: Technical specialist required for alpha toolex ad12
Your AD12 press looks very familiar. I hope you don't mind the colour scheme :-) You don't need Tullis Russel paper, although it's very good. Your labels were tearing because... (a) labels too dry (b) ram speed too fast (c) stamper label area not roughened enough (d) vinyl biscuit too cold (e) label...

Re: New JAES paper on tracing distortions
I look forward to reading that in full. Bear in mind that there is no acetate in a lacquer disc. We generally refer to the cutting stylus as "cutting stylus" rather than a "chisel" and a lacquer disc as a "lacquer disc" rather than "an acetate disc". Again, there is no acetate in anyting we use and ...

Re: Strange audible error on 1959 stereo disc
I would call that bad practise. In all my technical documents about electroforming from Europa, Ortofon (yes, Ortofon made plating equipment), Toolex, Capitol Records, PolyGram, EMI, Apollo and others, there is no suggestion that stampers should be polished. I can’t see how it stands to reason

Re: Strange audible error on 1959 stereo disc
There's no reason to polish stampers. Polishing mothers removes the horns at the edges of the groove. This allows the stamper to separate easily from the mother and consequently, allows the pressing to separate easily from the stamper. Polisihing the stamper would wipe out fine detail in the groove ...

Re: Lathes in Jamaica
What I found interesting about Jamaica is that almost eveybnody I met there had released a record! For a country of 3 million people, they had at least eight pressing plants (not all operated at the same time) and a vibrant music scene. The equipment they used may not have been the most up to date s...

Re: Chris King RIP
Chris was quite a character. He got himself banned from the forum for doing some very dodgy deals.
Something went wrong towards the end and people were paying too much and receiving too little or nothing at all.
RIP Chris.
