Re: Line Output Converters

interesting! I'm not sure I'm fully understanding how one could eliminate the power amp in this scenario, except by using an integrated amp.
an occasion to use a buffer amp would be in your signal chain after doing subtractive EQ (if the EQ itself doesn't have makeup gain)

Re: VR chip suction issue

i had the same issue when my head was too light and the stylus wasn't able to cut proper groove but just touch the blank exactly, great clarification. there are a lot of factors that can cause the head to have less than perfect contact, and even if the head weight seems right at the measuring point...

mod note: moved this to the "secrets" section, this section Cutters And Their Work is more for coverage of trolls activity, and questions regarding the members themselves rather than specific gear questions.

Re: Line Output Converters

what I gather from your post is - why not simplify the signal chain as much as possible? I respect that other cutters may have a different way of working, but for my Presto 6N setup it goes like this: focusrite sapphire pro 40 ->mackie big knob (routing and level only) -> power amp ->cutting head I ...

Re: Warped blank records

there's another thread somewhere, but it helped me get a seed propagation mat. basically a heat mat you can stack a bunch of records on top and the bottom few will warm up. it's safe to leave on for a long time, and just the right amount of heat. I got this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/173665485506...

Maybe there are cheap laser discs to be found that no one wants.
just a heads up laserdiscs aren't as cheap as they once were on Ebay.
maybe you'll have better luck in person, but I find them at minimum to be $2 each or so

Re: VR chip suction issue

bumping this thread as I've refined the fix some more: because of the rigid chip pickup hose I was using, and the distance from the chip jar to the lathe, my chip tube was slightly inching up during the cut. the tube would start to push up on the cutting head but only on the inner diameter. Sometime...

Re: Bad feed screw/blade ?

seems like a feedscrew issue to me. personally I've had the spring that holds the blade down give out, it was an easy swap with one off the shelf from the hardware store. just look extremely carefully at the top knurled knob as the carriage passes over that area of the feedscrew, and note any change...

I'd go with a neoprene mat. There's a little too much natural 'give' in cork for my needs.
that's what I'd say too!
