Thanks Curley Ann! I was watching that wondering what the records may have been - Beatles recording are not hard to come by, but I saw some MGM 50'ish looking ones that might have been fun. My cousin had a full box of 10 inch LPS from the early LP era - and he used them as beebee gun targets. Oh NO...

While that sounds good--we've always gotten excellent sounding material from 2 or 4-track standard consumer reels recording at 7 1/4 IPS on a good Teac machine. We can't afford to go as big as what was described above...that runs into some big bucks and I'm at the age where I just need simple--yet n...

Does anyone have a good quality reel-to-reel deck for sale?
Now that we have officially launched Essency Records--we are looking to "update" our little recording studio and install a good quality reel-to-reel deck.
We don't need anything fancy...just a Teac or Roberts--something that will take standard 7" reels and record in stereo (2 or 4 track)

Congratulations! This discussion reaffirms the need for modern "fibre" type needles for acoustic gramophones. The NOS supply will not last forever, and not everybody has access to a cactus! Ah...yes! A fibre needle would work beautifully. I had forgotten about that. (however...for OUR records, you ...

...I'm sorry for getting on my soapbox. it's just that record collecting has been a big part of my life for so many years, and the CARE of them is very important. I was always instructed that hand-wound phonographs were for PRE-ELECTRIC RECORDINGS ONLY! (prior to 1925). After that time, the first el...

Thanks, Steve... I'm sure there will be quite a few who will agree that the FIRST and foremost purpose for the phonograph record is: "PRESERVATION"! You are recording a time-capsule of audio history, my friends! I have 78 RPM records in my library that, because they were TREATED PROPERLY, sound just...

I love my hand-wound phonographs...don't get me wrong. HOWEVER...I don't play mine that often. The reason..? The steel needles--on the heavy reproducers--dig into the playing surface of the record, degrading the groove more with each play! Eventually, the record will be rendered unplayable. With eac...

1921 would be very early for a surviving broadcast!! In fact, no radio recordings are known to exist from this era. Hey, Steve-- Thou hast bestowed upon me a wonderful concept idea as to HOW this broadcast would have been preserved! Say this Charles Wentworth fella was the Bill Gates and Donald Tru...
