Re: DIY Overhead Lathe

flozki, honestly, I don't understand....I tried several Leroy Merlin, Castorama and stuff and I could find Plexi, Opale but no lexan. I even tried with Plexi and Opale but it was just awful.

Re: DIY Overhead Lathe

For motor controler, be carefull NOT use switching PSU ( Pas d'Alimentation à découpage for other french trolls :-)) Regarding motor itself, I use MFA 950D-501 (50:1 reduction). About my latest embossing tests, well I am pretty frustrated, I only had one side left of a lexan disc to test and it was ...

Re: DIY Overhead Lathe

Thank you for the tips vmspoland, even if I know my work can nowhere be compared to what you achieve. audadvnc-> I used to have a MFA motor controller but I was very disappointed with it : it was dead three weeks after purchase  (18 euros at my local electronic store). Since my electronic know...

Re: DIY Overhead Lathe

Hi there. Some updates about my machine. (I know I go slowly...) I replaced the aluminum cones with saline ampoules (much lighter !) I modified the arm so I have a lot more possibilities regarding recording head tilt. The control box has been modified : it is now fixed to the base of the lathe and I...

Re: BARGAIN ruby/sapphire styii on ebay

Yes I saw these few days ago...Is this really the same ?
Do you think it is possible to grind facets with a regular grinding machine ?
Seems pretty complicated since length is only about 1.6 to 1.8mm :?

So...are Lexan/Makrolon really different from CD-R ?

That's strange...According to wikipedia a CD-R is made of Polycarbonate. But when (with my DIY lathe) I emboss something on a CD-R, I can verify every time what Lathetrolls wiki says : "groove depth is often an issue and tracking can be difficult". I tried to emboss on lexan board and it is far bett...

Re: Rev 2 of my DIY Stereo Cutterhead

Hi classicaviator, welcome aboard. I am a begginer compared to the other members of this message board but what I can tell you is when you want to build your record lathe, sometimes you spend more time on finding the proper part than actually assembling your machine ! Reprap for sure will reduce thi...

Thanks a lot the_ducktail for encouraging I do have to work a lot because there is really a lot to do : So far the least worst I could get is on a CDR with a stellite stylus. My main problems : - I cannot tilt the head to 45° which is what needed for proper embossing.=> So I need to make a new head ...

I confirm that I used I-RIAA for my every tests. nonetheless, no HarBal filter so far. I'll try to play with depth to find a proper balance... That is very nice from you for makrolon, but I am afraid sending it from USA toward France will be too expensive. That said, I do appreciate. I will try to o...

All right...so let's start with my endless questions/remarks  : on which media did you get your results ? Since my lathe is completed, I tried on CD-R with bad to -not that bad- result. I tried plastic sheet (bad results). Ok I know Lexan is the way but before spending lot of bucks ruining Lexa...
