Please update your avatars to onsite

Hey all! As a security measure, we can no longer allow links to avatars from offsite. The graphic that represents your identity must be uploaded to this site, not just linked. I have uploaded some cute topic-appropriate default avatars, so if you do not upload your own, you'll still have a little gr...

Re: Apollo, Transco plant fire.

I have set up a separate section for discussing the Apollo situation that will only be viewable by members who are logged in: https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewforum.php?f=34 Scroll down below the announcements and you'll see the topic(s). I don't know if this is necessary, and eventually I may combin...

Re: Apollo, Transco plant fire.

I'm stickying this topic. I don't even know how to begin to take in this information. Has anyone here talked to Sam and Terry? I just talked to Sam a week ago. Disabling downloads and photos unless logged in

Hi All. I am sure this will be inconvenient for some. But right now I am disabling downloads for people who are not logged in. We are getting absolutely nailed by bots, and for whatever ominous reason they are downloading the biggest files here over and over again. I'm looking into firewall solution...

Re: Site is going down TODAY for a few hours; maybe all nigh

I'm going to try again. Today. I am sorry--attempting to do this at night is killing me.

So, the site is going to go offline within the hour. Wrap up if you are typing anything.

Re: Site is going down TODAY for a few hours; maybe all nigh

That didn't work. In spite of endless rehearsals, the real thing failed. Luckily, I was able to do a full restore.

I'll try again soon.

As you were.

Site is going down TODAY for a few hours; maybe all night

Today is the day. I’m going to upgrade the site to the new software. As I’ve warned repeatedly, the look will change a bit, though I’ve done my best to minimize this. We will lose some interface languages. I’m sure there will be a few formatting problems, too. Please message me if you notice anythin...

Foreign Languages: I need testing help!

Dear Lathe Trolls, Is your account set to a foreign language? I need your help in testing the upgraded site. I am planning to take the "risky" move of leaving all the language packs installed during the site migration, in the hopes of not forcing everyone to reset their language. It LOOKS like this ...

Re: Site is down and up and down and....

A couple of updates: 1) I have had to block some specific IP's, and some IP ranges, which were causing problems. I am hoping I read the data appropriately and acted correctly. One program claimed that 10's of thousands of hits were coming from a single IP in Tacoma Washington. (w o w r a c k) Others...

Site is down and up and down and....

Dear all, Apologies. Bluehost shut the site down for "excessive activity" yesterday, without ANY warning. I got a reprieve for 24 hours, which is probably not enough time to finish addressing whatever problems are going on. It may be that the site has become popular enough that it needs to go to a d...

Re: The 2019 "May C. Hyers & Hattie Nevada" Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. It's saving our butt!

This is a manual operation over here, so it can take me a little while to send specific thank-yous and confirmations, and to update the Sponsor page. This will happen soon enough, I promise!!!

I think I had trouble accessing Paypal for a few moments last night. It does appear several of the site members have made it through! Thanks all so far!

The 2019 "May C. Hyers & Hattie Nevada" Fundraiser

Saturday, November 30, 2019 Dear Lathe Trolls. It may seem poetic that I am launching the annual Lathe Trolls fundraiser on USA's Black Friday Record Store Day. But it is a coincidence: The rent is due on our domains and hosting. I am also in the midst of an urgent upgrade of our forum software, so ...

I've deactivated opcode66's account. Be nice. (An Essay.)

In case anyone is wondering why opcode66 has been atypically quiet around here: I think it's important that our community know that I deactivated his account. I'm still running his banner, and hopefully people who want or need his services can find him that way. I'm not happy about the situation at ...

Re: What should the site look like?

There may also be a temporary language problem, unless i can nip it in the bud--- after conversion, all accounts will initially be in British English. You may have to reset your language in your control panel.
