Re: Cutting a shellac record, historically possible?
Nah man, You got it 100% right No way one can cut on what is commonly known as shellac discs/records, which is a misnomer really since the composition had a lot more ingredients than shellac which was a minor component, around 70 odd percent was fine ground slate, with a bit of rubber and some shell...

Re: 7" Press Tonnage
There is tonnage and tonnage, what you need to keep in mind is not only the pressure in tonnes but the projected area of the record, 70 to 80 tonne range garage presses are plentiful they will not press a record you need the area of the piston that exerts the pressure about the same diameter if not ...

Re: Technical specialist required for alpha toolex ad12
No feedback from the Swiss guys so far, I wonder if they have solved the issue, most suggestions here are valid, To me it seems that the label holes are slightly under sized assuming the tearing is on both sides of the record, if so all records will be the same, torn If on the other hand it happens ...

Re: Local council/governmental notifications needed for for pressing plant in the UK
Sure It is a simple registration, Now consider what you are required to do to it, for it, Control the possibility of Legionnaires Disease, Algae growth, maintaining pH levels as well as corrosion of all the plant downstream, Chemicals etc that's where to cost is, in so far as the boiler is concerned...

Re: Project : Diamond stylus for lacquers
There was a Japanese patent on the diamond stylus for lacquer. Do a search for it. If I remember rightly it had a .0001 gold wire embedded at the back in contact with the lacquer to ground the static electricity generated to ground. It had 3 wires two for heater one to ground the static. I am sure a...

Re: Nickel sulphamate, presence of ammonium.
Is Dead, finished, gone, useless, expensive costly excersise 57-59 C is getting very close to ruining the sulfamate solution any way, your thermostats even with an accuracy of 2%, doubtful, will get it above 60 C the maximum for NS liquid It is very simple, if the liquid in the tank is at the above ...

Re: Lacquer Specific Plating Issues
Argh the joys of making vinyl records ha Well yes I remember that Finishing.com post The guy was effectively dummy plating his cut lacquers, nothing worst, unbeknown to him of course, his output was bad until he figured it all out I wouldnt go that far as saying that Transco Apollo or MDC are in any...

Re: Ownership of Plates/masters
This is a moot point without a clear cut answer, it depends what a plant considers they are doing so as to get your vinyl records Are they providing you with a service or are they selling your goods In the case of the job of making vinyl records it is a half and half scenario Need to first clarify a...
