Re: Producing Lacquers
My 2 cents: its doubtful that a new startup would even be able to find insurance coverage for processing and storing the nitro especially after this apollo incident. Without a properly designed building including blast relief walls, explosion/hazardous rated electrical equipment, halo suppression sy...

Re: PVC :: Why do we use PVC??
Expanding on what aussie said, pvc compounds are a balance between quality and financial feasibility for the presser. Sure there could be many materials which give advantages over pvc, but if the presser cant make any money, why bother? Lower melt temps correlate to lower energy/utility costs on you...

Re: Vinyl cutting under a vacuum?
you are correct in there would be no way to dissipate the heat via convection, but all objects (whether in vacuum or not) can remove the thermal energy via radiation. I will search through my heat transfer textbook from undergrad for any equations that may apply. Will update soon

Re: What Happened To All These Record Presses?
Well Lenahan owned the 101 Strings Orchestra before it was sold to Alshire Int. and Miller had produced the the Hamburg series in the late 50s and a few other German releases, so this is how they met. From his time spent in Germany, Miller noticed there was too high a price for the quality offered i...

Re: What Happened To All These Record Presses?
Here is an interesting story for you trolls in regards to the Fabel presses. When John Dunn contacted Bill Westerman to have the SMT developed, he created a venture, DDL, for this purpose (standing for Dunn, Dufour, and Lenahan). My great-grandfather, Harry Lenahan of Lenahan Associates, was one of ...

Resin Composition
Hey trolls, I've been trying to dig up some old threads on the formulations of the pvc resins with no luck, so I wanted to see if this post would attract any enlighteners. I did come across a thread that gave a few suppliers such as Dugdale via linvest, Doeflex Vitapol, etc but nothing about its for...

Re: Looking for experience of any kind
Noah, You should decide on whether you want pressing experience or cutting experience as most pressing plants don't do their own cutting. Welcome to 1979 is a company in Nashville that only does cutting and United Pressing in Nashville is the pressing plant here. So do some brainstorming and choose ...
