Re: Wilcox Gay Recordio model 6A10

Thanx Mark... Yes my first inquiry was asking about a VU meter, yet that term was also escaping me... So how does one go about doing such a mod, because I would like something more like that. I have also seen on here the user frankenlathe (I think that's it) who modded his Recordio with a home built...

Re: Wilcox Gay Recordio model 6A10

Thanx!!! :D

might I also ask, is the magic eye even necessary for recording? Like does it complete the circuit and won't record sound without it installed? Or is it just a handy tool, which without it I'd just have to shoot in the dark with trial and error till I get the level I want?

thanx again

Re: Wilcox Gay Recordio model 6A10

Noob to cutting/embossing (Baby Troll). I now have one of these too. (Along with a recordette & two Edison Voicewriters) Great info in here! I'm sure I'll have some questions... Like what is that rec. light called, and where might I source one? On further inspection, I now notice it looks like it is...

Re: wilcox gay recordio model 6a10 for sale on ebay

I just bought one of these and am pretty stoked!!!

How do these vary from the 6A20? is the 20 much better? I may have opportunity to get a 20 -if it is a much better machine I for sure would buy it. Yet if the 10 is near the same (recording wise/function) I may hold off...

Re: Edison Flexi-Dictaphone playback

I did notice the print year inside the cover -with three new pat. #'s on the newer one. The later one which was the first one I got is from 55 and the one I just got is from 58 -and there are noticable differences inside also. The wires leading to the mic/foot pedal/ accessory panel does differ. too...

Re: Edison Flexi-Dictaphone playback

Just got 2nd machine, which has power cable and mic controller. I 1st tried out the one I had already, to see if it even powered up, and it did :) -yet mic wasn't seeming to work. So I thought , okay the mic doesn't work, yet I'd have an idea of what wires led to which pins etc.. Then I hooked up th...

Re: Question about Wilcox-Gay Recordio 6A20

However, don't expect to cut 'hot' level dance mixes on one... 8) :D I intend you cut creepy, eerie music/Soundscapes -so old sound is what I am looking for, and no two would sound exactly the same, which I like too... Yet am looking for something that would be playable more than just a few times, ...

Re: Question about Wilcox-Gay Recordio 6A20

Thanx emorritt.

But what if I used my Recordette solely for cutting -and not playback -with just a cutter head?

I'm guessing still the amp. etc. is better on the 6A20?

Question about Wilcox-Gay Recordio 6A20

I just found a 6A20 http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/wilcox_gay_6a20.html at a local antique shop for just under $100 and it looks really clean, almost new! My question is it worth the money? I got a recordette for $27.00 I also am wondering if this 6A20 is any better than a recordette for any reason or...
