I think Antlab used to produce industrial radio/microwave equipment. It could be for metering radio signals on the aforementioned circular charts.
I was going to make a bad entomology joke too, but I'm glad I didn't.

I've posted before about my vinylrecorder and got crapped all over by some for sharing my personal experience, but no mind, I'll try again as I think it's valueable to give honest consumer reports. I bought mine second-hand. Thus, Souri will not sell anything to me and would not give me any advice o...

Re: HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN LACQUER BLANK DISCS
Hey Moss You are right, I am stuck in lo-fi headspace. I thought since there is probably a minority of chemists here and more mechanically inclined people, maybe there is more of a mechanical solution... 5 microns is a bit daunting though. Well heck I got some 600grit sandpaper in the back and a Bla...

Re: HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN LACQUER BLANK DISCS
"we just need to keep on chipping away at it" *groan* nice one, moss. Maybe this is sacrilege, but has anyone tried polishing or planing as a final step? Maybe something could be made for a drill press or like the idea of a wood planer? I saw a small press for drymounting photos that had very fine a...

Cymbalism: I just purchased a diamond from vinylium. Shipping was fast from Switzerland to Canada. About 2 weeks. The build is fantastic (I haven't tried it yet, but it looks great under glass). Flo was a prince and previously converted my vinylrecorder head to fit the vinylium stylus. So now that I...

Diamond cutting stylus'z'zzz and PVC sources
Hey, anyone know, perchance, where to get diamond stylii lapped and/or purchased? I'm using the vinylrecorder but it's second-hand so of course I can't buy from manufacturer. *sigh* Also, those PVC blanks- I would appreciate a source. I believe Vinylium has plans for this in the *hopefully* near fut...

Ha nice cuttercollector. That will be a good hour or so of mental visualisation to get a grasp of your posts! It makes sense, but It will take time for it to sink in. I had been confused because it seemed like out of phase = bad, but in order to have a stereo cut you need phase differences. So now I...

phasors set to 'confuse'
Hey everybody (3rd edit) A recent thread about phase limiting piqued my interest. DrDub has mentioned this monofilter plugin: http://www.nugenaudio.com/monofilter.php Which has been very helpful- thanks! but I'd like to know the mechanics of how phase applies to the cutting head/stylus. I've found t...

12vac! I have a variac hooked up to it. I blasted it at 10v and it made the wire explode into lava. I was scared for my beautiful face. I set it at a conservative 2v after that. maybe I will try another power supply :) The wire coil I have is only about 3ohms of resistance. I don't know what the imp...

I have some of these. I am so new that I don't know how helpful my experience will be, but I find they are fairly noisy. Also, I need to use a hole adapter which makes it nearly impossible to properly secure it to the platter. Sometimes this results in the cutter holding the disc in place as the tur...

Well, I'm not sure on several of these things... I *think* the blanks are some kind of pvc... I bought them with the lathe and I don't know what/how old they are... not decades though. :) The discs are like sheets of acrylic cut into circles... could they be just acrylic? They are fairly soft... I'm...

Lieutenant Swarf and the StarChip Enterprise
Ahoi, I'm trying to work out the depth of cut here. I've read in the recent post on rejuvinating a lathe that the chip should be thin like hair and straight and shiny (at least for a silent cut). The chip I'm getting is kinky. The same article says this is indicative of too much weight. Any less wei...

I didn't mean to sound like I was talking trash about souri, it just seems like he's got a secret formula. Plus, being a n00b myself, I think I mistook what his blanks were as I have a bunch of plastic discs that I thought were from vinylrecorder... Maybe I should inform myself before being a smart-...
