Yes, I had found a cheap snubber on Amazon, but as you said it wasn't right for this application so I returned it.
Thanks for the info, I'll go on their website and see if I can find something that will fit my homebrew lathe.

Re: Possible dash pot replacement for ALL lathes.
I'm actually looking for a good dashpot replacement. May I ask what model you're currently using, Sillitoe?

Cope Plastics in Minnesota carries it.. but it's not cheap. I've bought from them before.

Re: Grampian feedback
Wow, thanks a lot! Very interesting info.
On the topic of feedback Grampians, would a 60W-ish LM3886 amp be sufficient for driving one of these heads?

Grampian feedback
I've been searching the forum for info about Grampian feedback heads, and found that the feedback in them is actually not like traditional feedback, but more just to linearize the low-end on the heads. Does this mean that you could run a grampian feedback head without using feedback?

Very cool, I think I'm going to do that.. Did you just use steel for the side pieces?

In your picture, where are the magnets? Are they on the top, and the sides are just pieces of steel or something stacked up?

Is there any reason you couldn't just replace the horseshoe magnet with a couple of neodymium magnets..?

Re: Vinyl Recorder - Stylus heating HELP PLEASE!
One thing that always bothered me about the whole blank/stylus heating thing, especially in regards to cutting plastic.... I thought when you're engraving/cutting/whatever using some sort of tool, isn't the goal to REDUCE heat? I've heard that heat kills diamond tooling... why is cutting records any...

Vinylrecorder head
Hi, I'm trying to collect as many pictures as possible of DIY-type heads for ideas ... I was wondering if anyone could post (or PM if you don't want it public) a couple pictures of the underside of the Vinylrecorder head. It seems pictures of that head are pretty hard to come by, at least from the s...

It's just regular old black acrylic. I've used it before with a sapphire, pretty much cut the same as clear acrylic.

Re: does anyone own/use a Stanton STR8-150 for cutting?
Actually, when I first got the ST.150, I had to send it in for repair because the platter it came with had an awful wobble.. I don't really have any problems with it, my main problem is when the blanks aren't perfectly flat (since I don't have a vacuum system). With flat blanks, it works fairly well...

Re: does anyone own/use a Stanton STR8-150 for cutting?
I use a Stanton ST.150, which I believe is the same thing except with the curved tonearm. I cut polycarbonate with a diamond, grooves around 2-3mil (50-80 micron). The turntable seems to barely keep up, and if the disc is warped, you can sometimes hear the playback get a little wobbly.

then i removed the vaccum by holow shaft through turntable bearing.. so i dont need a center piece. Do you have a picture of below the platter? Yah I actually did some searching and found some posts from the past... but like you, I only found the Alan Graves method.
