Re: 100Hz hum: Motor noise?

Well i was curious if the idler wheel was totally dry, so trimmed the dry & uneven top layer and found that inside seems to be in very good condition as a rubber. Living in a 50hz region lowers the speed and now is just above 33rpm! I am planning to send it to Jesus @agnewanalog for a very precise t...

Re: 100Hz hum: Motor noise?

Yeah, I have finally ordered a Walsco 1436 idler wheel, still on its way from Russia! Specs: https://www.turntableneedles.com/Record_Player_Idler_Wheel_1436 Well today my M180 arrived! Its a lovely little machine but the idler wheel is not that good. Is this 1436 wheel a direct replacement or does ...

7um is pretty good for a 12" platter.
My '56 Rek-O-Kut is almost 20um on the 16" platter!

Re: New: Phonocut Desktop Disc Cutter

Im not sure if its a language barrier or if I'm having issues making myself clear . My point is, for 100 blanks of Phonocut 10'' disc, it will cost me 920$ USD ( not including the jacket, not the insert ,not the printing, not the wrap, not the new stylus every 100 records nor the shipping to canada...

Why "Record Store Day" and not "Lathe Cut Day" ???
I believe that we (all lathe trolls) love the vinyls more than the record stores!

Re: Coloured Blank Discs - where to get?

NB; The material used for blanks as sold by Souri and Myshank seem to be of a somewhat softer material than pressed vinyls. Which may mean all written in the texts in the link may not fully or at all apply to the blanks we're using, colored or black. Which also raises the question who's actually ma...

I know that apparently the noise floor is a bit higher on coloured vinyl
Is this true?
How much noiser are they?

I would like to give a try but they seem to be double the price of the black ones !

Re: Motor Speed Control (VFD - Variable Frequency Drive)

Indeed thats a nice idea but i prefer to experiment on the original motor!
So i manage to buy an Invertek Optidrive E2 (Single Phase output) from the fellow troll boryo.
Unfortunately the output signal is not Sine wave but PWM so there is enough space to experiment with!

Re: Motor Speed Control (VFD - Variable Frequency Drive)

Well, the best solution may be a mechanical reduction of speed, and let the motor work in the conditions it was designed for That was my first plan but it has space issues... I was planing to modify the 78 rpm wheel of my master pro lathe but then it will crash on the chassis frame :-( Tye 33 whee...

Re: Motor Speed Control (VFD - Variable Frequency Drive)

Thanks for uploading the files! I will eximine and see what i can do! The only way to control my sync motor is by frequency. So for half speed i need a stable 25hz pure sine wave supply (50hz region). I was already thinking to midify the idler wheel but its not possible due to space issues (the whee...

Re: Motor Speed Control (VFD - Variable Frequency Drive)

Hi, Way back, I modified an off the shelf 12Vdc car inverter (modified sine type) to become a poor man's VFD. I reverse engineered the schematic of a cheap 100W device and added controls to adjust frequency and voltage separately. As you lowered the frequency, you dialed the voltage back to keep th...

Hi Epos, I've seen your thread about the triangular shaped stylus. That looks very impressive indeed. I would be very happy to try it but I don't think I have the capability to make one, are you selling these? If so I'd be interested.
Thanks for your interest! soon you'll hear about it!!

Hello there!
I'm triggered in getting Full Control of my lathe's 100W Synchronous motor!
I am currently work only at 33rpm and I like to be able in use at Half Speed 33rpm (16rmp) , Standard 33 and 45rpm!
Any DIY or SALE recommendation welcome!

Thanks

Re: Outer groove distortion - Sapphire Embossing

I'm really triggered for half speed embossing but i need to customize the idler wheel from 78 to 16 rpm!
You really have to try also an triangle embossing stylus! (https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8676)
There are really improvements with it!

Re: Outer groove distortion - Sapphire Embossing

There must be an issue at the settings. I do emboss 7s & 12s with very good results and fidelity at the outer side of the 12s is significant better. Only bad thing is that sometimes there is alittle more background noise and thats due to combination of the uneven surface / material and high angular ...
