I once I had tried to put a dc little gear motor but all vibrations goes to lathe and then on disc. I think that the best solution could be have a motor with low number of rpm without gears, similar to quartz dd motor of a turntable, with proper electronic controller. Too my orig. platter was of iron cast, but now I will made a new alu platter, for don't have problem of magnetic fields.

How many centimeters of distance are there among your motor and overhead under right side ? Do you have the possibility to change your motor system ? If you remove all that parts below your turntable and drive your platter with an external motor ( synchronous ) with a belt, you sicurely have solved ...

Hmm, intersting, I am thinking that you could have a problem of magnetic fields or interferences , but obvious , this depend in which material has built your carriage. This happen when you goes near to centre of disc ?

I remember once have played an lp and at the end of side, in locked groove there was a strange spring noise...
