Re: Scully lamp socket/bulb holder
So, the diameter inside the pipe is 13/16ths...odd. Thats measuring from one thread crest to the other on the opposite side with my calipers. The thread pitch was harder to measure as you cannot actually get in a look to see the gauge resting on the threads as its a small hole and blocks all light ...

Re: Joanna : SX74 Clone on Ebay
LOL jeeze I really do want to buy this, that is, if I had a wild surplus of money. It would be tenaciously interesting to see how this thing was done. There of course is a risk that its largely made out of wood or something gruesome like that.
Indeed a mysterious object.

Re: Scully lamp socket/bulb holder
If all else fails you could have someone Braze it together then paint it to keep things neat eh? Quite a realistic idea indeed. Even more obtainable, clean, and reversible would be to epoxy a new insert inside this opening that acts as a reducer down to something common in lighting. This could be d...

Re: Scully lamp socket/bulb holder
It will be good to measure the thread pitch on those internal threads, with a thread gauge like the one pictured here: Screen Shot 2016-02-18 at 2.12.03 PM.png You will also need to measure the width of that opening– both of these operations could likely be 'guessed' to a pretty good degree. There a...

Re: vinylrecorder precision plate measurements
I believe it is trivial to need measurements on this part, because you can make or have one made over a wide variety of dimensions and it should work well provided it: can accommodate a belt [if you are going that route], and it does not collide with any parts on your turntable [particularly the ton...

It is made of titanium for German knives, I thought over this week as you do with this material [titanium, titanium can be soldered tin]. I've been doing this handle on the knife 10 minutes. :) Hey sakuszi, cool part!! Where did you find this? Do you have a link? I did this handle a drill...

I know about heating wire, but I think heat will decrease the lifetime of these "cheap ebay HSS", but I try it tomorrow. I've enough konstantan-wire here around. Heaten up the PET-G with a heatlamp ended in a warping plate. My grinding machine got 60U/min an so the hole process lasts more than one ...

Re: Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
Have you tried pressing discs instead of strips cut for the cone? I'm not sure I understand. The press method starts with a flat disc of aluminum can material that I annealed with a torch to soften. Then into the die and press. What comes out is one formed cone with excess around the perimeter. Yes...

Re: Project "Groove Scribe"- A DYI stereo 45/45 head.
Looking great, Bryan! Looks like that pressing method is going to work well for you! Have you tried pressing discs instead of strips cut for the cone? I don't imagine a disc would be any easier, but with the correct gauge of metal, it might work. I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase, and I...

Re: BD's Mechanical Disk Recorder Build
What material are you making the final "cone extensions" out of? Are those also going to be spun aluminum? Hey Bryan, I failed to mention the method I have come to to form the cylindrical members of these parts: Basically I put down a soft pad and roll the pre-cut aluminium strips into a cylinder u...

Re: BD's Mechanical Disk Recorder Build
I managed to assemble a rough prototype of the bobbin and cone structure I am considering for my design. The bobbin portion is made from a beverage can, the conical transition is made from spun 29 gauge aluminium sheet stock. The two pieces were positioned on an aluminium jig and superglue was guide...

Re: BD's Mechanical Disk Recorder Build
Alright here's a first go at it with the tool: spinercone.JPG More of the same, but looking better and way easier to complete. I should mention that I have been experimenting with a number of gauges of aluminium sheet, and I have come to one that works very well. 0.0011" = [29 Gauge] : sheet stock -...

Re: BD's Mechanical Disk Recorder Build
Hey there Scotty, That adhesive looks unique. At the end of the day, it is simply a glue with aluminium dust in it, I believe. It certainly may add structural rigidity and other adhesives are found with this composition. Here is one that I have in my adhesives collection that is tried and true, this...
