Scully 261C VFU and stuff

Just a quick note: Is there any interest in a 'decent' schematic of this? I am restoring mine now, and the sketches are flowing. If there's any trolls who have one and got daunted by the lack of skinny, how to deal with the interfacing, talk to me... it ought to be functional in a few weeks, Good Lo...

Serial 1496!
And I can't wait to see it in action! I hoarded that thing most of my adult life.... Len H. tells me it's a good sounding amp!

Re: Amplifier stability with low-R, high-L loads?

I am curious - what glue did you use that killed your bobbin? I rewound one in 1968 with zero hassle, but I used whatever gauge wire it had been, it drove quite well with a pair of 807s from a 16 ohm tap, amp I built myself, about 50 watts or so. Anyway I am watching with great interest! Is the bobb...

I am quite interested in the skinny for the Scully 261-C Variable Pitch unit, if anyone has this it would be much appreciated. If not, stay tuned for I will draw it out myself and share it...

Thank you, JJ! You might add, that one learns best by observing a true Artist happy at his work... and learn I did. He was one of a very few who would allow me to turn off the HF limiting merely on my assurance that no harm would befall!

Re: Westrex RA-1574 scheme wanted

The Boden book has the skinny for a 'D': I have 'E's modded by Al Grundy which I have gone over fairly thoroughly, and the D skinny is VERY close to what I see on my bench. In fact, I am somewhat at a loss to tell the differences, so they must be either subtle, or in a place I haven't touched, or wi...

Re: We need bread, milk & butter.... and some records.

Who would ever have thought, but on the 'whole' it's made my day a bit brighter! Thanks, Johnny! I cut a number of masters with you at K-Disc back in the early 80's, and I must say, you were the best Mastering Engineer I'd ever cut with. Thank you for the great work, and the memory of fun sessions w...

Re: Presto 89B Cutting Amp

Hi all,

With regard to the Presto 89B cutting amp, brainfart has occurred. It is actually an 85B.... It came from KGGM Albuquerque to me in about 1969, and I've had it ever since. I'm sorry for the goof!

Moderator's Note: No problem, your post has been edited to correct the model number.

Re: Neumann Controller Box Mod

Just want to say, I think it's great that there are folks pushing the state of the art - I'm doing much the same thing with my Scully and Crestron boxes. Works like a charm so far, there'll be pictures when I get around to it. The pic is pretty early on, but the idea is clear. The TP on the left is ...

Re: Presto 89B Cutting Amp

Thanks very much for the input, and the very cool Presto site! Guess it'll hit my bench after the 1547E's I'm restoring. Am mostly curious to see if anyone could get use from this amp. It's really an 85B, I goofed. I thought military due to the plug-in electrolytics (which I wish one could still get...

Presto 85B Cutting Amp

I have a Presto 85B Cutting amplifier in what appears to be very good condition. It's been in storage for about 50+ years, in a very dry place. My question is: should I try to sell it, and let someone restore it, or would it be preferable if I did that first? It looks to be of Military descent, and ...

Re: Other places where to buy lathe parts

My dos centavos.... when I was 16, I did the same thing with a 541A, and I recall having hassles with the damping, so perhaps it'd be well to see about replacing the material (rubber?). Len is very available, and I can personally vouch for the high quality of their work. He really cares. Google "His...

Re: Rek-o-Kut TR43H project not going so good...

This isn't likely to help, but I believe the offending transformers can be sourced fairly easily, I'd be glad to help. Did the line fuse have the wrong value? In any event, accept my sympathy! I've had this exact experience a few times....

Re: Bodine motor rumble: capacitor?

Somehow, I really doubt the cap is the problem. Rumble is more likely caused by runout on the motor capstan, hardened/flattened drive pucks, or bad turntable bearing, including flats on the ball bearing at the bottom... Much can be divined from the frequency of the rumble.

Lurker At The Threshold

Hello, and Happy New Year to Fellow Trolls! I am a qualified newbie; I made my first chain in 1967 out of radio station backroom gear: Rek-O-Kut Model 'V', Fairchild 540 (I think) which I rewound, a home brew amp with P-P 807's - I was 17 then, and hadn't found my way to Hollywood yet... Now, I am 6...
