Hmmm. Don't give up your day job. You need at least $20,000 - $30,000 to do it properly (Neuman VMS 66 or VMS70 with SX74 head) or a little less for Scully lathe with Westrex 3DII head. Anything less than this gear and you are not in business. As they say, either play hard or go home. Anything less ...

Helo Alan and welcome. I dont know the answer to the first questions and hoping that someone has the answer. When you say "polycarboante (dub plates)" I am thinking you are actually meaning lacquer discs (often called acetates). The dont last as long ie: you will notice a high frequency roll-off aft...

Advice needed : Setting Up Grampian with Presto 6N
After trolling through this forum and adding my two cents' worth, I have decided to set-up my Presto 6N with Grampian cutterhead.
I need an amplifier to suit.
Has anybody done this and does anybody have any advice, tips, etc.????

This is no joke, This is essentially how records are made. As an experiment, we once silvered a 12" vinyl record and electro-plated it to make a stamper. The edges were way too rough and after a few pressings, the stamper was unusable. So, it is possible to take a vinyl record and use it as a matric...

So you want to cut masters? You need a real system, something like a Neumann VMS66 or VMS70 lathe with an SX74 head driven by a SAL74 amp rack. Expect to pay over USD $20,000-00 It seems to me that the USA's favourite cutting system is the Scully lathe with either the Westrex 3D-II or Neumann SX74 c...

Are these the books published by the Audio Engineering Society, New York? I ordered mine (which I no longer have) direct from the AES NY in the late '80s. I have never seen them in bookstores. You might try the AES and see if they're still in print. Good luck. PS: I noteice you;re in Sydney. Do you ...

Records such as Split Enz's "True Colours" (Australia) were pressed with a holgram graphic across the surface of the entire vinyl disc. This is an Australian release but the record was mastered in LA, USA. It would appear that the blank lacquer master was etched with the holgram pattern before the r...

USD $35,000-00 for an AM131 ??? Wishful thinking for sure. For this money you could buy a Neumann VMS70 with SX74 head and SAL74 rack and still have some change left over to buy a record press or two. Best value on Ebay was a Neumann VMS70/SX74/SAL74B system ex-CBS Records for USD $20,000.00 - now T...
