Re: zoetrope lathe cut 12" vinyl records

These are just picture discs. Are you looking for someone to design a zoetrope for you? Or do you have one and just need lathe cuts?

Re: Cutting on to CD

Most people emboss onto cds because they are polycarbonate. My guess is that the polycarb would wear down yr cutting diamond fairly quickly. But you could potentially turn an old, slightly worn diamond around 180 degrees and emboss with it. Tragwag would probably know.

If you successfully wind a new saddle coil for this, I would be interested in buying a few. I don't have a coil form for it. Thanks!

Re: Stuck Between Current Recordio 8j10 Resto or Trying to Find Another Lathe

I can get you started with a lathe at the high end of your budget. It will be WAY WAY better than that Recordio, will come with a starter pack of blanks and a needle, and include tech support. I can get you cutting good mid-fi records in about two hours after it arrives. EMail me through www.RecordL...

Re: Presto 1-C vs Fairchild 541a vs RCA 11850 heads

They are all in the same middle range. Quality depends more on the head’s current condition. If i was to roll the dice on them, my order would be RCA (if that is the silver square hifi version. I believe that is the model), Presto, Fairchild.

Re: Anyone tried a Diamond stylus on a 1d cutter head?

You can diamond cut pretty loud on a 1d. Maybe not post-loudness wars 80s dance 12”, but much louder than embossing. But it also really depends on the life the cutter head has lived, so your head maybe louder/not than any other 1d.

Also, It's good to have a calibration disc so you know the frequency response of your playback system/cartridge.
The "Ultimate Analog Test LP" will give you this.

Re: cheap embossing material

Laserdiscs are made of acrylic, unfortunately. They can't be embossed, only cut using no longer readily available cutting sapphires (or diamonds, tho NOT recommended), and the acryclic will wear needles out QUICK. Can be done, but not cost effective AT ALL. You should be able to get polycarbonate sq...

Re: New member Presto 6n resto-mod project

I think it is just a 6-32 screw that has been milled down on one side and then has a hole drilled in the end. Its not an off the shelf part. Its custom made, but not hard to make with a dremel, a clamp, and a drill press.

Re: Hello from Pittsburgh, Helping kids understand vinyl...

Al is correct, there is absolutely no way to get started in this hobby for anywhere close to your budget. The recordios are pretty useless in my opinion and i personally wouldnt waste the energy on picking one up on the curb in a free pile. Quality is crazy low and restoration is far more expensive ...

Re: First experiences cutting records on a no-frills mono machine – questions how to proceed.

• Am I using the right blanks for my setup? Those old steel needles were meant for cutting lacquers, and even on a fresh lacquers rarely sound good now. • Where can I get “fresh” cutting needles? I lay out all the different blank and needle types and which are compatible with which in my Newbie Star...

Hi. I sell Lathes and have a pretty wide range of options and prices. Many need restoration, but can be done quickly once I know which lathe to prioritize. Email me through the "contact us" button at the bottom of this website: https://www.recordlatheparts.com/collections/record-lathes
