Thomas Edison Voicewriter

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I have fooled around with one that cuts 7" discs although I also have the cylinder version. The 7" cutter is nice because it is some what unitized. The main problem with the one I am working on is the motor doesn't run.

I have the 74000 electronic cylinder recorder. It is very temperamental. At the moment, it won't cut a groove. But it's a bit cold now to be fooling with cutting wax. Lacking a supply of replacement parts, this antique office equipment is perfect for the clever tinkerer.

Have you gotten anywhere with yours?

I've one with no wires and am wanting to get it running and control it with external controls -yet don't know what pins do what.

Mine is a VPD-3

seems near impossible to find info on these... why :?:
Cheers,
