Recycling stampers and DMM

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

At my last job, we would just call around to different local metal recycling places to get prices for nickle. I think there was usually some "this guy will give me this, can you beat that" type of negotiating up, but basically, it was just a bunch of legwork on the phone.

Scrap metal dealers. The nickel stampers should be 99.9% pure nickel and the DMM mothers are made of stainless steel with a copper coating on one side. As already suggested, ring around.

If you have a good quantity and you're not in a hurry, it night pay to monitor the cost of nickel and sell when its high.

I have scrapped everything from mother, stamper and lacquers.

Your local metal scrap dealer is the place to go. Expect them to cut open the lacquers to see what is under the coating. They always take them though.
