Cutterhead repair / rebuild service

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Stronger + more accurate response from the stylus having coils on north & south ends

The 1C & 1D have 2 coils vertically parallel to each other - Wired in series & inverted...
The 2 coils are driven on a single channel.

Stereo heads have 2 coils arranged to about a 45 ° angle in opposing directions which are driven on individual channels...

there are two coils to make the cutting sensative ,, so that it cuts to disk.. giving it the extra vibrations to cut theg roove.. and leave permanent markings.

Yes... Its true, Horizontal cutters aren't built the same... They have their own patents....

Most heads are built different, but you will find similarities in design with some brands - Changes implemented by manufacturers to avoid patent infringments from the brands they somewhat copied...

Presto 1-B, C & D heads having only the slightest of changes contain several interchangeable parts and are the most consumer friendly cutter heads available...

The magnet, pole pieces, armature, stylus damping fixture, spring pins, terminal block, and most of the screws can all be interchanged...

Single coil, double coil, vertical, horizontal - it doesn't matter because I can manufacture custom sized coils and damping blocks to suit...

If you have a mono head that needs working on - Send me a P.M

Does anyone know what happened to Neil? Has anyone else sent a cutter head for repair recently? He seems to have disappeared completely and is now radio silent. Not sure what to do in this situation.
