Presto K8 - Odd Black Knobs (not on others...?)

The Presto K8 I recently purchased appears to maybe have an after market addition that I can't figure out what they are for. See the black knobs in the pics below. The one on the left seems to do nothing. The one on the right sounds like it has a short so I only get sound when it is turned all the way to the right. Anyone seen this or know what they are for?

Never saw that before,you would have to open it up and check the wiring schematic and see what was done.

Here is what I discovered when taking apart.

Left Knob - It connects to the Volume indicator but turning it does nothing that I can tell.
Right Knob - It connects to the volume knob and to the Radio input. When turning it everything sounds shorted out and cuts in and out except when turned fully clockwise.

Anything thoughts on what they might be for? Also, do you think I should remove them?

those knobs are strange. someone before you must have installed those in there.
as mine does not have those and looking at other pictures of K8 they are not on it.

Maybe that could be adding to the hiss in your other post?

That is what I thought so I removed them and still the same.
