What is the diameter of a 10" record ?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

What is the diameter of a 10" record ?

Hint .. it's not 10 inches. While creating shipping boxes for a 10" record set I found out, that 10" records are well, not 10" in diameter. Actually they're closer to 9.8 inches (25cm) . I measured several originals. My question: Is 25cm the standard for a ten inch? Or what would be the safe measurement for a shipping box so that the records (and sleeves) fit in nicely without rattling too much?

Thanks.

I understand your question now. 12" records are not 12" in diameter, either.

Why not measure up your product and build a box according to the required size just to be 100% sure?

Because I never see the final product. It will be packed into the boxes at the pressing plant. But I have to provide the boxes. However - the pressing plant already confirmed that 10" records are pretty close to 25cm (9.84") - so I go with that.
