Cutting flexis
I've come across some x rays and thought I would have a crack at this. Has anyone else had good results? I've heard an increase of weight is the key- but what kind of heat is optimum?
Re: Cutting flexis
I have recently cut some xrays using myshank diamond stylus.
Any other cutting shank will not have good results (sapphire, ruby)

That's fine as that's all I cut with.Jccc wrote:I have recently cut some xrays using myshank diamond stylus.

What kind of heat are you using for your platter. Is a heat lamp required still? How about the needle temp?
Re: Cutting flexis
I did not use any heat. Maybe i should have.
Because now my needle seems to be cutting bad now!
I have tried adjusting the angle but now it just sounds horrible.
Before the shank going bad.
The records were sounding really clear and loud with no surface noise.

How about the Swarf situation?Jccc wrote:I did not use any heat. Maybe i should have.

Re: Cutting flexis
The swarf came off differently on some of the xrays.
Some would come off nice and go towards the center and other ones would come of in strands and kinda stuck to the xray.
I would then have to lightly scrape it off.
They all played nice with no surface noise. I cut 35 one sided xrays.

Re: Cutting flexis
JCCC, I know that feeling, when I got my 1st Myshank diamond I had started off with some myshank pvc blanks and happily cutting away till I got consistant results and was in bliss cuz my cuts were so loud n clear, well then I started to experiment with pc , pet, acrylic and xray film, all getting good results.....well itdidnt take very long till I damaged my styli. Now on my 2nd one andthis styli has never touched anything else but myshank blanks and ive now cut about 70 hrs (and still counting)with out noticing any difference in quality . Now that ive got my weight n angle dialed in im reluctant to try experimenting with a different plastic. Diamonds are hard but the fine sharp tip of a styli seems easy to chip, as Steven states, experiment at your own risk! Im nothat brave anymore!
Big up,
Patrick

Does anyone here use a heat lamp or heat the styli?
