Two MONO cutter heads and one Amp?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Two MONO cutter heads and one Amp?

No this isnt a link to a porn....Lol Curious if it is possible to run two 8 ohm cutterheads (presto 1d & Audax) with a Rekokut R8a amp? On the back of the amp there is a 16 ohm output, could I run them parallel off the amp?

Much respect to those that contribute to this board.

Hi,

It looks like you have two choices. Run them in series and connect to the 16 ohm output or run them in parallel and connect them to the 4 ohm output. Keep in mind that you will you will only be able to drive each head at half of the power that the R8 delivers as it will be split between the two heads.

Many thanks markrob! In theory it seems like it would work. Would you actually try it with your own gear if you were me? Im still a noob at all of this

Since they are both 8 ohm, I would run two amps. Mainly because I'm sure there will be a different sensitivity (volts needed for 5cm/s reference) between the two. Using 2 amps you can set both levels correctly. Also, you can EQ the heads differently as I'm sure will be needed.

That's my put.
