desperately seeking someone to lathe-cut a record for me

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

The only person in the world who seems to offer commercial lathe cut records at an affordable price for short-run releases is Peter King in New Zealand. All the info here:

Apparently tho it takes a LONG time for your order to finally come back as cut records. Someone recently posted on the iheartnoise.com board advertising their Peter King record and said it'd taken 8 months!

From your message it sounds like you just need one single record cut?? Might be your best bet is to search for "dubplate" cutting services... intended for DJ's, you can get single records cut. Not super cheap, around £20-30ish it seems. varies depending on size of record etc.

For example, just whatever came up first on google a couple of places in the UK that does them:
