Need to borrow/buy Presto K-10 78 worm gear

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Need to borrow/buy Presto K-10 78 worm gear

This forum is great!

I just got my cutting head back from the rebuilder (Bruce Leslie, Pro Recording Service 216-662-1435) who did a great job. I've got 10 times more volume on playback now!

When I bought my K-10, it came with only 3 gears and there should have been four. I suspect that the 78-groove, outside-in gear was missing. The gear I gear I have been using must be one of the microgroove ones, since I am able to cut three 2.5 minute songs onto one side of a 10 inch disk and still have room for a label! I had the Tone control set towards Treble on my first test cut, so the problem of wide Bass grooves running into each other has not yet occured.

If I could borrow a 78-groove gear, my machine shop friend could duplicate it. Or perhaps someone out there has one for sale?

Thanks!
