oh no i think my diamond bit it again.....

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Mine bit it after so mething like 15 12"s. I don't think the vinylium stylus are made very well or something if that keeps happening to everyone.
all the best!

Mate is Farked
Sorry for the bad news and welcome to the world of suffering for your art
mentally financially and all the rest
Dont give up and do not look to yourself as the culprit even though you may be just work harder and longer so as to make the money you need :D
It happens Bad bit of diamond with the grain the wrong way when it was cut
Hard to tell where natural weaknesses are due to inclusions invisible flaws and a whole host of other little issues that accompany cutting and polishing of natural or man made stones
Had saphire that lasted 100 or more hours of cutting and others that bite the dust in a single cut
Just grin and bear it man I am sure that the sellers would love to have your hard earned money as well they need to eat to
I did say in a prior post one has to look at the cost over a fairly lengthy time frame so as to ascertain if it is a worthwhile pursuit so keep it in mind mate
Your next one may last a long time or not at all and do not bother asking for a replacement from the supplier
Any way there is one in my place if you want it It is used but not broken If you pm me I will give you instructions as to where it is hidden 8)
It is of use to me you may as well see if you can get something out of it
I also have the gear to re sharpen the one you have but it will be a while before I can get to it so keep it for some time in the future mate
That would cost you a couple of slabs dude Coopers ale red in bottles
Cheers
Chris

about the vinylium stylii

i use them extensively on my disk-o-mat and also on my presto with sc99 and neumann vms80 with sc99 and sx-74
i had 2 which lasted for almost ever. min 300-400 sides.and then about 6 with 2-10 hours of cutting time. with impression that last few ones where not the same quality...
i hope they will produce better stuff. actually it is not vinylium itself who produces. producer is maybe not very interested to make a good product. part of that stylii mafia? who knows. but i have the impression...
so all the complaining quality improvement is very complicate and takes forever. i hope they come with improved quality.

and i hope to get some of the other stylii advertised on that forum. would be great.

to say also that souri stylii, 2 new ones didnt last that long either. 2-5 hours cutting time on polycarbonate. no heating.
and we made the tests on side with a souri cutter. and there it lasted half the time.
i know i can improve livetime with heating.but i prefer without heating.
and because i had already very good results with some of the vinylium stylii this is my reference...

any other product with same quality cheaper and ready to order (i can go and pick up .....) is highly appreciated...
and i would love to buy one for tests. but it doesnt help me if i can not order it whenever i need.
