nice shot of Motown's first lathe

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Lathetrollers -
Figured I'd pass along this awesome shot of Motown's first mastering setup that was posted on the GS mastering forum by former Motown cutting engineer Bob Olhsson

his reply to my question as to what was what:
It's an AM-131 fixed pitch with a Neumann ES59 mono head. The signal processing is an Orthophon high frequency limiter, a pair of our own 7 band graphic equalizers with half-speed capability and some filters that could also be set for half speed cutting. The amplifier in the picture is a Mac 200 and of course that's a Studer C-37 tape machine.
Best regards,
Steve Berson
