very nice cutting lathe from russia

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I found an German article about xray flexi discs made in russia in the 50-70ties. There is shown a handbuild cutter which is very nice . Here is the link http://einestages.spiegel.de/external/ShowTopicAlbumBackground/a23303/l7/l0/F.html#featuredEntry

What kind of needles were thy cutting those with? I've had no luck with sapphires or steel. Has the type of film changed?

You were using the very slick film as opposed to the matte finish looking film, I'm assuming?

I want to cut them without a diamond, ideally...
