Lacquer smell

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hey Trolls,

i guess that special smell is something else...and well yes maybe "unhealthy" as well...
smells organic and familiar but its driving me nuts to not finding out

Its the same smell that pours out of old library card catalogs, and hammond organs.

It's the vintage smell and it comes from a forgotten era, fresh cut lacquers are the only place to revive the smell from, it takes a good 40 years of sitting to achieve otherwise

Well, if you cut enough, your clothes and house should start to take on the smell, but i do like the idea of apollo no.5 perfume.

Smells like money to me.

Seriously, are lacquers not made with nitro cellulose. Makes sense that organs and library cabinets smell the same. It is also used as a wood finish. Guitars too.

I Agree, Instead of a pine tree freshener for your car, we need a lacquer scented record to hang from our rearview mirrors!
But as powerstrip said, if you cut enough you become your own scented ornament anyhow...:>)

It is shockingly combustible. And, don't breath in after lighting as the fumes are toxic....

Was old movie film made from Nitro also?

The movie Inglorious Bastards has a scene where they light the movie theater on fire and I believe they are referencing how flammable that stuff was.
