Seriously. Fred did the master's for all the dead moon lps and 45s and many others on an old presto 88 with Grampian that cut the original Louie Louie. Look it up or their documentary "unknown passage: the dead moon story". Any lathe troll in here will dig it so hard. Especially the presto dorks! That's really all I can say I just wondered why this huge section of northwest diy disk mastering skipped the trolls? Cheers

Dead Moon had many times in the past visited my town Athens,Greece for a live gigs.
I have some 45's and L.p's in my collection
mono recordings ofcourse.
I think Fred is an owner of Presto lathe.

Love dead moon. Huge inspiration for me when I started cutting. They are always sort of in the back of my mind as an ideal for what the meshing of smart underground punk ideas and the more technical parts of getting a record made should look like. and I also always think it's weird they aren't sort of held as the gold standard for DIY cutting types. Love the part in that doc where they are trashing stereo. paraphrasing here "don't need all that shit flying around between the speakers" something like that. Don't burn the fires, never coming home.

I love Dead Moon too. I've never seen them live, but I played the vinyl I had of them to death. (Well, not to death, since I take decent care of my vinyl.) I especially liked the "Defiance" LP. I had a bunch of singles, too.

I'm a massive fan of the first "Love" album and their sound had a lot of that same passionate punk roughness.

I've known about their self-mastering situation ever since I lived in Seattle in the early 90s. In all likelihood my knowledge of them and their methods were a subliminal factor in starting this board.

I forgot it was a Presto! Dang! The records sounded great. They rocked.

A very long overdue mention of them. Thank you!!!!
