New Way To Cut PC Sheets (Cricut Craft Cutter)

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

New Way To Cut PC Sheets (Cricut Craft Cutter)

Hi guys... I was sitting around thinking of how to cut my 12x12 PC sheets from Amazon and it hit me... My wife has a Cricut craft cutter that she has never used so I gave it a shot with excellent results. It doesn't cut all the way through, but it does score it enough to where I can bend and get clean breaks. I have ordered a deep cutting blade to see how much better it does. Watch the video below...

Link to the size/thickness you bought off Amazon? Interesting results!

Question: Want kind of software do you need to run this thing? I am asking, because I don't use Windows or Mac. I still follow this (some people call it "ridiculous") philosophies of freedom and sharing....

I have used the .60 and .30 thickness 12x12 sheets. obviously the .30 is much easier to cut and break but I will let you know how the deep cut bit works when it arrives today. I believe it only works with Windows and Mac.

I read about the copyright policies of the cricut manufacturer. It seems, that they don't allow your very own images to be cut. Though most of this complaints are from 2011. Is that still true? Or can those machines cut any shape or form? I am curious because I think a machine like that would be great to cut labels (for records, CDs, cassette tapes ..)

Thanks.

The software allows you to create or upload any image you want so that makes no sense.

Yeah, the newer software allows you to cut whatever. I'll have to try this on some .030.

Any good results with the needle for heavier materials?

also I believe it's possible to repeat the cutting several times possibly to get a cut all the way trough...

was thinking to exactly this on a large Roland vinyl cutter, but this seems like an easier solution

Here are the issues I have noticed.

On the thicker PC, you end up warping the material a bit. It seems to work better with the .30 thickness.
When you cut multiple times, sometimes the alignment is off. I am going to try this some more though.

I imagined that the biggest size you can go is 10''?
Am I correct?

The width of the machine is a little over 12". so you can do 12" no problem.

so if I understand you correctly the needles suited for heavier materials did the trick?
Do you have to 'overcut' a lot of times?

Just once then you can bend and break on the seam. Just be careful not the overland and warp the PC. I suggest the .30 over the thicker material. Also, sticking with 10" cuts or smaller.
