An alternative method for non feedback mono cutterheads?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Does anybody knows about FM CALIBRATOR?
An article about FM CALIBRATOR was published by RALPH A. SCHLEGEL in May, 1947 in the magazine AUDIO ENGINEERING

As you can see the FM CALIBRATOR was attached in PRESTO Cutter head 1C? or 1B?

Hi!

Interesting article!
The same technology was used 10years later by Fairchild for their Stereo-Feedback cutterhead.
Forum Member Markrob has played with that method as well (AFAIK...)
Can be used for measurements (like in the article) or when carefully refined maybe even as Feedback source for correction!

Cheers
Lukas
