VMS slide mechanism

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

VMS slide mechanism

Hi All,

Please forgive me if my part nomenclature is off (I can't find a parts manual online for Neumann VMS machines).

Can anyone tell me how the slide mechanism works?

I assumed it was a plain dovetail machine slide but I saw a video of a guy with one & he just pushed it lightly and it coasted off under its own momentum.

Which implies rollers or ball bearings. Which, for mechanical noise reasons, I would not have expected.

TIA,

Wilson.
