Vinylrecorder mixer problem

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Vinylrecorder mixer problem

Hi! Couple questions here:

For the last 6 months I didn't cut anything at all on my VR. Sometimes a noise apperared and I couldn't find its origin So I decided to stop cutting, I cut as a hobby so it's not a big deal to stop for a time. A couple days ago I decided to upgrade all the RCA cables on my Vinylrecorder and try to start cutting again. Problem is now I can't remember where this was connected to the mixer. Can anyone help, please? Here's a picture of the gadget at the top left side of the mixer:

Second question, I'm still using the Stage Line MPX-1 mixer the Vinyl recorder came with. I think the noise problem might come from here. So I was thinking on deep cleaning it or simply buying a new one. Do you know if this little mixer was modified by Souri? Can I buy another one and simply plug it? Will it work or has it got to be modified in any way?

Any ideas?

That small gadget was plugged to the mixer to be able to adjust the volume of one of the channels. Sort of an additional balance knob. But where was it placed?

the plug usually goes on right or left phono channel, just to balance the levels between them, if they are not equal anyway

Noises exist from the fact that the groove speed controller is also powered by the heater stylus power.

If you see my thread on self powering them, POOF.. The sounds are gone. .

Hope this helps. I don't even use the little pot he sent. Shrugs.

Looks like you use a computer ATX power supply (12v plug) and connect that directly to the connector inside the main unit if I read this post correctly.... Look for the pic on the last page.

Thanks for the link!
Although I must say I don’t hear any hum in my system. Maybe it differs between machines
