just curious, why are the pole pieces on mono heads laminated and not solid?
I'm sure theres a reason but I can't figure out why so thought I would ask...!
Re: why are pole pieces laminated on mono heads?
Hi,
To avoid eddy current losses at high frequencies. Not sure its always really required, but it doesn't hurt. Way back, when John B. was working on his Grampian head clone (search the archives here for more details on that project), the first pass version had solid pole pieces and it did affect the response.

Hi thanks, makes sense. I’ve noticed some heads have solid poles but most laminated. Since it would be more work to build and therefore cost to manufacture, I figured there must be a reason for it.
