New vinyl record presses

Once you have cut a master laquer, you have metal stampers created and have records pressed from them. Discuss manufacturing here. (Record Matrix Electroforming- Plating, Vinyl Record Pressing.)

Im pretty suprised a warmth lamp is enough to make the pvc granulate soft enough for the press,..
This stuff isnt that tuff it destroys the stamper would you put in less heated granulate in the press by accident?

Ah yes. Andy B's link shows the Werner & Pfleiderer down-acting press with top mounted cylinder. W&P is a world leader in plastics machinery. When EMI needed a good extruder for the legendary EMI 1400 auto press, W&P were the company selected to make the EMI twin screw extruders for them.

Good question. This is why splatter colour records are usually noisier. There is another method that allows the loose coloured pellets to heat up to almost the same temperature as the vinyl cake and these records have no noticeable noise. The now defunct Teldec in Germany made perfectly quiet splatter records back in the day.

;)
Very much the case for 7" records
I would like to see a 12" machine with a top mounted cylinder
I have yet to see one successfully implemented
I should have been more precise and say 12"
Never mind
The minders will always pick one up He He

The W&P has changeable moulds, so this press also does 12inch,
There was also a press from LAUFER arround, also top mounted cylinder,
was used before the W&P to press pictures in ALL SIZES.

Well maybe the Germans had it sorted out,
The top cylinder presses at some place we all now do only picture discs or 7",s and they have a few
My observations and their comments, on these machines, they have tried for years to get them right for 12" but to no avail

Impressive cycle time, similar to the very very early EMI trimming system but that had a rotating knife rather than a circle cutter setup
A very good way of cooling down records before trimming to get fast cycle time

By putting them in the oven, or? Now this is something you'll find out in practice, i guess it would come down to find the right temperture between to hard pellets and melted ones if so.

Nice article on Viryl Technologies with serious automatic record presses;
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/small-business/startups/canadian-firm-comes-to-the-rescue-of-vinyl-lovers-by-building-new-pressing-machines/article28507701/

I think a pretty big deal when this is in full operation.
