Embossing on polycarbonate
I manufacture sapphire needles for embossing. This particular needle allows me to cut or emboss around 300 discs before it starts to show the effects of ware.
Lubricating polycarbonate NO NEED TO DO THAT !
Before cutting the record or embossing for that matter, it is essential to clean off any residue left by the protective plastic film on the surface of the polycarbonate disc, You must remove the adhesive film left behind by the protective peel-off plastic. I have found that using lighter fluid to clean off the residue works best, and don't be mislead, lighter fluid dose not soften or lubricate polycarbonate it evaporates very fast. I don't use "Turtle Wax or DW-40" either, I always emboss dry at room temperature and no heat lamps.

Hello, I am from Spain and I have embarked on a particular cutter project using the embossing method. Are the sapphires you make very expensive? what price does it have?

I can attest to the quality of these. After working on my own head and lathe for the past 5 years with the help of this amazing forum, I decided to get one. I dialed in the EQ from my second embossing, and my third turned out pretty damn decent.
The people at recordlatheparts.com were also very helpful, and I have to say thanks to them too.

I forgot to include these..

Still working on the lathe aspect, (there is some noise, which I assume is from the motor) but I am proud nonetheless.

Re: Embossing on polycarbonate
Hi Guys!Chany here
I started in this crazy adventure last April
2023.. and I received lot’s g good tip by Mike,
Konstantin,and others..
The thing i found it’s to let it go sometimes hahaha and takes some notes coming back to the old notes and read a lot by others experiences on this forum.
I started with a Presto k8 that I fully modified with the help of a friend ,Eli who got a 3D printer
And experiences in building CNC projects.
I have 2 cutting heads.One Audax and a TKV
Design and produced by Konstantin that I bought from Mike.
Right now I’m waiting for my new vacuum so
I putted the stéréo TKV on the sides
T’il i got the proper set up to restart cutting.
So I went back to embossing with the sapphire
Cones by Mike with my Audax.
I get good results in the past couple days
I’m still get some friction sound and hiss
But what I got right now is better than my last
Summer headaches lol.
I’m using the polycarbonate disc that I cutted
At work for set up and test and when I got
A good settings I use the ones I order from
Mike.
Here some pic below of my project.
