This video summarizes the work so far. And, shows you where I'm headed. I will have this unit cutting records within the next couple weeks if that. Then, I'll be selling it and making units from scratch. CNC cut MDF cases. I have a source for platters and platter bearings. I make everything else! Details as things evolve as usual....

PLS19 Overhead Sides
I'll have rods cut, tapped and threaded tomorrow for the rest of the overhead. Two support rods, one linear bearing rod, and one threaded rod for a leadscrew. Then, I will start to write the motor control code and make the optical rotary encoder. First version will be accurate fixed pitch. Second version will include a novel way to track the overhead and trigger safety groove, lead-in, loud-out, as well as locked groove at the end. Third version will add automated raise/lower of the cutterhead and automatic rewind of the suspension after a side is finished cutting. Fourth version will add the code to perform basic peak to peak pitch calculations and control of the motor like VMS70 (including taking direct digital input from the separate platter motor control board). Fifth version will have point to point pitch calculations like VMS82. Final version will include the ability to be completely controlled by a real desktop or laptop computer remotely which will enable more software options later.

The rest of tonight I continue to work on the Bluetooth LE implementation for remote control via iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. As well as for streaming audio from either your device's music catalog, the Internet, or live recording via your phone's built-in microphone!

PLS19 Overhead Side Panel Cover

Yesterday, I machined an aluminum metal panel, made a meter mount, made another interface panel with rocker witch and three potentiometers, added three transformers to the box, added tone/volume control board for processing input audio, added vu meter board and vu meter, added mono 200w amplifier, finished the repair of a mono cutterhead, got the audio chain setiup and can take streaming bluetooth audio for processing/amplification and output to the cutterhead, got GATT characteristic remote control of the system for controlling the platter motor and updating the lcd, made graphics for the iOS remote control app, started the iOS remote control app and got it showing on my phone with graphic buttons, and probably a couple other things I'm forgetting. I'll have a lot for a video later tonight!!!!!!

I learned Eagle, designed, drew and CNC'd 7 PCB's this week! BLDC Motor control, S66 Suspension box control, 50V PSU, MIDI IO board, iRIAA EQ Curve mono board, relay switching control board for Clean/iRIAA EQ'd audio which interacts with the iRIAA board, and MOSFET heating wire psu board. I've de designed everything to be modular. So, you'll be able to easily purchase and use any of these things individually or as a collaborative system.

I also made V2 of my gear reduction box for the overhead pitch motor. It is 100% stable. I resolved the binding issue in the overhead gear reduction and the leadscrew is now turning smoothly!

I refined the code for my BLDC motor driver board and have got the platter to move. I'll post video of the platter turning under power in a couple days after I refine a few more aspects.

Now that the boards are done and the overhead is stable I'll be getting all the various systems working together now under a single computer's control. Then, I'll be able to test cut very soon after!!!! I feel like I'm literally weeks away from a viable product.

BLDC Motor Driver V2
Tomorrow I'll be testing my new driver code with this board. I got my motor turning with the previous board but it wasn't designed ideally. This board should be solid. I should be able to turn the platter again properly now. Hopefully I'll have video posted in a day or two!

You'll see iOS remote control over bluetooth of my lathe, functioning V2 of my overhead with many improvements, fully packed PCB's for digitally controlled heating wire, iRIAA mono eq, digitally controlled iRIAA/Clean signal control via relays, and MIDI IO for automated/sequenced remote control.

I've tried 4 distinctly unique BLDC Platter Motor configurations. Its been a lot of experimentation... And, a lot of coil winding. I now get how to make coils for motors. I'm currently winding the 5th version of the motor. This time it is 18 coils, three phases, lots of steel cut and arranged just so, insulation where it needs to be, magnets arranged as required, all with 3d printed framing. Still using the magnetic bearing I created and a Technics 1200 platter. Be likely sometime next week before I have something to show here.

I'm interested in this motor also, because in the skratching community we are getting sick of the lame Hanpin OEM turntables, and people are looking for a decent hi torq turntable with a wide pitch range

also super keen to check out the suspension box if it fits on a presto!
