good speed stability. on a cylinder phonograph there is nothing to act as a flywheel, i am seriously thinking of adding a flywheel to the output shaft of the motor to increase the stability. a capstan from an old reel to reel tape recorder would work quite well i think.

but i had great results with dc servo motor. once adjusted it is super stable. one opamp primitvo regulator.
ir sensor is to track rpm. i just sent signal to a frequency counter. and adjusted ref. voltage to get the desired rpm.
lo tech. but good enough.

my main problem was that i never had an original recording head.

still interested into your cutting geometry.
