After a lot of work and a lot of time on the phone with Al Grundy, this is my second cut with audio. My first was a Willie Nelson song....

Enjoy. I look forward to learning a lot and want to thank everybody here for lots of info. Special shout out to Dietrich who's help was invaluable.

someday i'll own one of those bad boys :) what's up with your vacuum to suck up the chip though? i couldn't imagine cutting lacquer without a vacuum, too dangerous and too risky to ruin the cut from the static discharge
all the best!

On this cut the Vac was working properly. Earlier that day, I had some issue with chip pick up but had a big blob of chip in the pickup tube. Soaked it in acetone and was back in biz. What about the video indicates a problem?

in the video it looks like the chip is gathering outside of the cut youre making. i was just curious if you were cutting without suction thats all :)

Yes, I caught that when I re-watched the video. Good eye. I still have to hook up my compressed air to blow that stuff off and did not want to wipe it with a rag. That was chip from the previous cut.

Cool. I wouldn't be cutting unless the swarf is going into the suction tube. If it ignites on your stylus you will have a lot of work to do. That's a nice bit of kit - enjoy!

Thanks for the advice! A cleanup of the tube and some work getting the right position has solved that problem for now.

let the neumann suck some baby powder, to make
the flow of air better, and chip does not glue on tubes.

This was the first cut. Just to make sure that everything was working. Albert told me it was fine to do this. I would not try to cut a whole side like that and I am not running levels yet that even approach scary. The tank is now hooked up and running.

It is funny too that the manual for the lathe calls the helium system optional.

Yes at album levels helium is not important,But after a while you will learn what to adhere to and what to use use as a guidline. These machines were never designed for the levels and sounds that they are cutting today.
Enjoy
