Hi there!
Well, I would like to start experimenting on a lathe that cuts on plastic. I have already watch every vid in youtube and I've read many discussion here at this forum.
So, I should start building the cutterhead and I want to know what king of speaker do you suggest to find. Is a 30W full range speaker good enough to start? and how about Ohm (4, 6 or 8 Ohm?)
Something like those? (http://www.gemini.com.gr/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=84&lang=en&vmcchk=1)
Also, what kind of amplification I need? ( if I need any). A mono amplifier with few watts? I don't know much about electronics... ( I'm just a vinyl lover that I like to experiment).
I ll try to build something like this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-sicE5OyCo
So, I would appreciate, if you suggest me a speaker and amp to buy ( or find ) and start experiment.
Thank you in advance

Re: Speaker for CD lathe
Hello,
In my opinion 2w is too little, 12-20w may be more appropiate, bigger will be too heavy. TV speakers are a good option (and cheap )to start.Tweeters are favourite as they have small Xmax. (It does not move a lot forward and backwards) and are usually light. Light and small, this applyes for all the moving parts of the head, this is the key factor. get a precision scale and wheigth everything carefully. Take lot of time reading old posts in this forum, as many of your questios may be already answered, and some new points arise.
An amp around 50w is ok to start,in my opinion but you may want a bigger one in the future, in order to get more treble and freedom to EQ.
Good luck with your project!

Thank for your reply!
Well, let's say I find a tweeter in about 15W. How much weight it should be? less than 100 grams?
And I will appreciate if you can suggest me a brand of speaker or amp to buy for my project.
Thanks again!
